For consignment, a 2000 Ford Mustang Roush Stage II convertible
with a title verified 46,373 actual miles. This one's beendescribed
by our consignor as a "garage queen" but isn't shy about hitting
the road, having recently completed a road trip with flying
colors!
Exterior
Roush's team took a black GT and added some cosmetic goodies to the
outside including a body kit with side skirts and cladding that
extends the nose and tail. A bigger wing is balanced by a higher
hood scoop and the contoured, side exit exhaust is a stand out
design, mounted between the 18-inch wheels with staggered size
tires with a late 2020 date code. The black canvas top is in great
shape with a glass window and Roush is displayed as a banner on the
windshield and a subtle call out on the deck lid. The car presents
in excellent condition and the only imperfections we find are some
typical chin scrapes, not visible when you're standing next to the
car.
Interior
It's essentially standard GT on the inside, awash in charcoal black
with the exception of the leather buckets up front which wear a
horizontal red stripe and other than some compression on the
driver's seat, are in good shape. The rear seats lack the stripe
but are in great condition, as are the plastic door panels although
we note some separation of the plastic switch panel insert on the
driver's side. Steering wheel and instrument cluster are basically
factory fresh and a coveted Roush plate is mounted to the right of
the column, while in the center cluster, an updated AM/FM/CD player
and remote CD switcher are in place just below the A/C knobs. A
white knobbed shifter is between the seats and Roush branded GT
mats loom over the dark gray carpet below. The trunk includes a
Roush tool kit and also houses the CD changer.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a clean 4.6 liter SOHC V8 with an added BBK
throttle body and K&N cold air intake, rated at 260 horsepower.
It's fuel injected and mated to a T45 5-speed manual that routes
power to the Ford 8.8" in back with 3.27 gears and TracLoc.
Undercarriage
Plenty of surface rust but dry conditions prevail underneath with
the Roush stage II suspension kit bolsters the coil springs at all
four corners with a 4 link in back. The dual exhaust runs through
boxy Spintech mufflers before heading to the sides to exit via
chrome squarish tips. Improved brakes are part of the package and
are applied to power discs at each corner.
Drive-Ability
We don't have a dyno, but our butt dyno says the 260hp rating might
be a little light. This car has fantastic acceleration, a great
exhaust note, and nimble handling that clearly exceeds that
standard GT. No complaints here as all functions work as they
should and this one gets a thumbs up for the showroom. While
Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at
the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions
will be working at the time of your purchase.
Just 1,189 Roush Mustangs were produced in 2000 and while a
breakdown of stage numbers is not available, the overall production
number still makes this a fairly rare car. It's also understated
given its exclusivity and one could easily miss the windshield
banner while they're gazing at the slightly altered, streamlined
exterior and wondering why this one looks a little different. If
you own it, there will be no mystery about it, just miles of smiles
ahead!
