1965 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu SS - True 138 VIN • ZZ502 / TH400 /
Gear Vendors • Pro-Street Build - For Sale in Pennsylvania
Route 61 Classics proudly offers this stunning 1965 Chevrolet
Chevelle Malibu Super Sport, a real 138-coded factory SS
transformed into a professional-grade pro-street cruiser with
exceptional craftsmanship and modern performance. Finished in
Madeira Maroon over black bucket seats, this Chevelle blends
classic muscle car lines with a fully upgraded drivetrain centered
around Chevrolet's legendary ZZ502 Big Block crate motor.
Powertrain & Performance
Under the hood, a GM Goodwrench ZZ502 V8 delivers a dyno-rated 502
horsepower, with fewer than 500 miles since installation. The
engine is equipped with a 6-quart deep oil pan, MSD ignition system
(Digital 6 box, distributor, Blue MVC coil, and ceramic-boot
wires), a 3-row aluminum radiator, and Be Cool dual electric fans
pushing 3100 CFM. Supporting systems include a Power Master 1-wire
140-amp alternator and mini starter for reliable performance.
Power routes through a TH400 automatic transmission with a
manual-shift reverse-pattern valve body and a TCI 10-inch,
3000-stall converter, backed by a Gear Vendors overdrive unit for
effortless highway cruising. Cooling and lubrication are managed by
a deep TCI pan, Royal Purple ATF, and a TCI transmission cooler
with Russell #6 lines.
Fuel & Driveline
Fuel delivery comes from a Rick's stainless-steel tank, Mallory 140
electric pump, and Aeromotive filters, feeding through performance
fuel lines and fittings. The rear end is a 12-bolt with 3.90 gears,
a Detroit TrueTrac differential, 35-spline Moser axles, and a Moser
finned aluminum cover.
Suspension, Brakes & Chassis
The chassis has been extensively sorted, including QA1 shocks,
solid body bushings, adjustable rear control arms, and new Moog
front-end components. The rear frame is notched and mini-tubbed 5
inches, accommodating 1510 American Racing Torq Thrust wheels. Up
front, 6-cylinder front coils provide the perfect big-block stance.
An air bag on the right rear allows launch control and
side-leveling adjustment.
Braking is handled by SSBC GM-style disc brakes with cross-drilled
rotors up front and 11"2" drums in the rear.
Interior
Inside, the car retains its classic SS layout: factory bucket
seats, console with chrome shifter, and wood-grain GM steering
wheel. Auxiliary gauges sit below the dash, a cowl-mounted fuel
pressure gauge adds a race-inspired touch, and an AM/FM retro-style
radio with cassette/aux input provides modern convenience.
Exterior
The Madeira Maroon paint presents with exceptional gloss and depth,
highlighted by straight body lines and fresh chrome, stainless, and
trim throughout. A fiberglass-skinned hood with vented inserts adds
subtle aggression while maintaining the car's original style.
Summary
This 1965 Chevelle Malibu SS offers the rare combination of true
"138" provenance, high-end mechanicals, and show-quality execution.
With its ZZ502 power, Gear Vendors overdrive, mini-tubbed stance,
and professional build quality, it's a turn-key pro-street machine
ready for show fields, cruise nights, or high-octane street
driving.
