Few cars personify the automotive spirit of the 1960s quite like
this 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray. Fully repainted in its
original Nassau Blue Metallic color, which showcases its sleek
hardtop coupe body style. Along with its numbers-matching engine
and transmission, this 'Vette also retains its undeniably cool side
pipes, which announce its arrival long before it gets there.
Inside, we find a fully restored black vinyl interior. A center
console separates the dual bucket seats, while a three-spoke
wood-rimmed steering wheel sits just ahead of the C2 six-pod gauge
cluster, featuring a 7,000-rpm tachometer and a 160-mph
speedometer. A large analog clock sits high atop the center stack,
while its simple-to-use HVAC controls make it easy to stay focused
on the road. Thanks to the coupe setup, this 'Vette also sports a
sizeable cargo area behind the seats, making road trips equal parts
practical and fun.
Under that front-hinged hood, we find a clean engine bay housing a
numbers-matching L79 327 cubic-inch V-8. Originally, this potent
small block made an advertised 350 horsepower and 360 pound-feet of
torque from the factory. This motor features a single four-barrel
Holley carburetor, Winters intake manifold and has been upgraded
with a set of Hooker shorty headers that send spent gases out
through those glorious side pipes. Power is routed through a
tried-and-true numbers-matching Muncie M21 four-speed manual
transmission before heading out to the rear end that transfers
those ponies to the pavement via a set of BFGoodrich Radial T/A
tires.
