For Sale: 1951 Willys-Overland CJ3A in St. Louis, Missouri

Vehicle Description

This beautifully restored 1951 Willys CJ-3A  pickup combines classic postwar style with a comprehensive mechanical and cosmetic refurbishment. This truck captures the rugged charm of America’s original off-road workhorse.

During the restoration, the body was refinished and fitted with fresh U.S. Army graphics, new bumpers, and a new canvas canopy top. Exterior details include a body-color grille, dual mirrors, side steps, a drop-down tailgate, LED turn signals, a jerrycan, a front-mounted shovel, and a braided tow rope wrapped around the front bumper. The truck rides on body-color 15” steel wheels wrapped in Firestone 7.00-15 tires, with a matching spare mounted at the rear. The suspension, braking, and steering systems were all overhauled during the build for dependable on- and off-road performance.

Inside, the Willys retains its vintage character with refurbished seat frames and new tan vinyl upholstery. Lap belts were added for safety, and details such as a fire extinguisher and an ammunition box complete the military-inspired theme. The dash features a three-spoke steering wheel and a refreshed gauge cluster with readouts for speed, fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and voltage. The five-digit odometer shows just over 900 miles since the restoration, with true mileage unknown.

Power comes from a rebuilt 134ci L-head inline-four engine that was completely disassembled, tanked, and bored .080” over. The cylinder head was milled, the crankshaft was reground, and the build included new pistons and rings, bearings, camshaft and gear, valves, oil and water pumps, and a high-amperage distributor. Supporting systems were modernized with an alternator, aluminum radiator with fan shrouding, new exhaust system, new wiring, and a completely renewed fuel system with a replacement tank, lines, and sender.

Power is delivered through a three-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case, both rebuilt with new bearings, seals, clutch components, and a new flywheel ring gear.

This Willys runs and drives as well as it looks and stands as an exceptional example of a properly restored vintage 4x4. With its timeless military finish, upgraded mechanicals, and attention to detail, it’s ready for display, parades, or weekend adventures.
