*1967 SAAB 96 2-Door Sedan*One thing that historically has tied
Swedish cars together is that they don't follow the crowd. When
American manufacturers were building big-displacement muscle cars,
SAAB was experimenting with two-stroke three cylinder and four
stroke V4 engines in aerodynamic bodies for maximum efficiency. The
SAAB 96 was produced between 1960 and 1980 and represents some of
the company's most unique engineering solutions, in a shape that
looks like nothing else on the road. This example was built in 1967
and is believed to be an all original and unrestored
example.Finished in Beige, the 96 was a re-styling of the previous
93, but with a longer hood to accommodate for greater engine
choices. The car sits on a set of steel wheels, wearing factory
wheel covers, and chrome bumpers are fitted front and rear with
overriders. At the rear, pop-out windows allow for nice
pull-through ventilation, and SAAB branded mud flaps sit behind the
rear wheelsThe interior is very simple and quite attractive, with
the seats wrapped in brown cloth and a white painted dashboard that
houses a 100 mph speedometer, fuel and water temperature gauges,
which are all trimmed with chrome. To the left of the driver sits
heater controls, while an under-dash radio is off to the right. In
front of the driver sits a large 2-spoke steering wheel with a
chrome horn ring, and a column-mounted shifter for the 4-speed
manual gearbox.Powering the 96 is a 1498cc four-stroke V4 that was
sourced from Ford's "Taunus" line of engines. SAAB was so confident
in the durability of the engines, that they offered the first owner
a lifetime warranty which applied during their ownership, at a cost
of $50. This 60-degree V4 produced 73 horsepower (SAE) and 87lb-ft
of torque (SAE), which was plenty of power to cruise at highway
speeds. If you want to add a classic to your garage that you will
likely never see another one like it on the road, this SAAB 96
could be just the car for you. With its unique looks, interesting
powertrain and pleasant interior, this is a car that will get
questions every time you are out in it.*Key Features* * 1.5L V4
