Ford reinvigorated the California Special edition numerous times to
commemorate the 1968 model that was based on the Shelby Mustang and
limited to less than 5,000 examples. Mustang people love their
special editions and Ford knows how to make attractive tweaks that
transform a normal GT into a limited edition version with cosmetic
and performance modifications. It also keeps our friend John Clor
over at Ford Performance a very busy man!
For consignment, a 2009 Ford Mustang GT California special coupe
with a title verified 20,212 actual miles. This special edition is
barely broken in and presents in near mint condition with some
extra add ons like heated seats, remote start and a GPS locator
make for icing on an already incredible cake!
Exterior
Mr. Vader, your Mustang is ready! Take a Black GT and find ways to
create an even darker profile and that's exactly what was done
here. Let's start with lenses and reflectors on the car which have
all been cleared and then smoked for an especially sinister and
clean look. Then, put some black wheels on it and make them cool,
how about 18-inch Foose Legend wheels, yes, that will work!
Finally, tint those windows and use ceramic tint for extra measure.
Check mate! Your black pieces win the game and this is a stunner
when they are combined with the California Special's unique front
fascia, rear diffuser, and hood scoop. Minor chin spoiler scrapes
represent the only imperfection. Now, the stock wheels and lights
come with the car if things get too dark for you.
Interior
The special edition gets special interior treatment with two tone
black and parchment that starts on the handsome door panels and as
you might expect in a car with this low mileage, the doors are
spotless. They open the car up allowing views of the cloth seat
covers that were custom made to match the leather underneath and as
seen on the rear 2+2. Acolor matched diamond stitched floor
covering that covers the side walls and extends to the back is
fantastic! In front for this pampered pony is the leather wrapped
steering wheel with aluminum colored spokes fronting deep set
gauges, chrome rimmed and residing in a textured metal face plate
that expands the width over textured parchment plastic. The center
stack has Boss head unit with screen, (the original radio comes
with the car), over triple A/C knobs, and various switches, just
ahead of the Hurst shifter stoutly poised in the center
console.Fleece-like material makes up the spotless headliner and
gray cloth panels dress the trunk and the entire interior is very,
very clean.
Drivetrain
A Ford Racing strut brace stretches over the 4.6 liter SOHC V8 with
fuel injection and an added Steeda 93 octane tune and tuner along
with a Roush cold air intake. The powerplant was rated at 300
horsepower by Ford and is backed by a Tremec 3650 5-speed manual
transmission with power headed to the Ford 8.8" in back with 3.31
gears and TracLoc. Yes, the engine bay is sparkly clean!
Undercarriage
Let's see what kind of cool stuff we find under here! Ah, how about
dual exhaust that wears stainless steel Borla mufflers before
exiting through big, chrome tips? Nice. Power disc brakes are
present and expected but the suspension is enhanced with SR
Performance V2 16-way coilovers and an adjustable panhard bar
accompanying the 3 link in back. No rust, no runs, no errors, it's
clean as can be on the bottom side.
Drive-Ability
No surprises here as the pony starts right up with a pleasing
exhaust note that just invites throttle blips. From there, we roll
Darth's car onto the test loop where this "young" car does
everything well, from blistering acceleration to superb handling
and braking on demand. All functions afforded this black beauty
work as they should and it's back to the stable for this one. While
Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at
the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions
will be working at the time of your purchase.
Rockin' good looks, special appointments, and so few miles, you can
almost call it new! But of course, this one is more than 15 years
old, but you'd never know it. Certainly, carpet and leather are
going to look new as they've been protected from sun, liquid, and
dirty blue jeans. This is a fantastic spec that is objectively nice
and if you agree, race to the phone and let us know.
