"Although it's a wide and heavy vehicle, the HMMWV is very easy to
drive. It's curb to curb turning diameter is about 11' narrower than
my 1992 Toyota 4Runner's, allowing it to maneuver around obstacles
much more easily than you would expect from a truck of its size. It
has an automatic transmission and power steering. The power
steering applies a lot of steering boost, allowing the driver to
make tight stop to stop turns with a finger or two, even though the
truck's steering wheel is quite small." Mark's Technical

For consignment, a 1995 AM General Humvee M998 pickup showing 6,694
miles, but the true miles are unknown. According to our consignor
this one has been "redone from the ground up by a military vehicle
collector" and has such upgrades as custom seats, Bluetooth radio,
and upgraded off road shock absorbers.
Exterior
The paint was part of the redo and is a nice, even coat of Olive
Drab green presenting in typical flat finish and complemented by
black components that include the soft shell doors and top, heavy
duty bumpers, hood intake, side mirrors, and transport hooks. The
16.5-inch wheels are also black with eight lugs and 12 and 25 outer
rim lock nuts to keep it all together and look as heavy duty as
they are. The bed is clean and houses a spare tire while bow
shackles, D-rings, and tow hooks adorn front and rear with the
front hook connected to a Mile Marker 10,500 pound winch. The
exterior is uniform, (no pun intended), and clean and even all of
the light lenses, sometimes cracked or faded, are in very nice
shape and have been replaced.
Interior
The black vinyl doors open up to handsome black bucket seats with
white stitching and as usual, split by an enormous tunnel and the
rear buckets are joined by a small bench seat perched on that
tunnel. A simple black steering wheel fronts an entirely olive
green interior and a dash which houses a variety of gauges and
Bluetooth indicator on the center box. Our front passenger gets
clean, riveted steel to look at while the driver is afforded a
shifter and transfer case selector in the center. The windshield is
robustly framed in steel and provides a wide view over the big
hood.
Drivetrain
That hood flips forward to reveal the 6.5 liter Navistar diesel V8,
rated at 190 horsepower and fuel injected. The 4L80E behind it has
a new control unit and this 4-speed automatic sends power to 2.73
gears in front and rear axles.
Undercarriage
Fantastically clean underneath where huge componentry and belly
pans take up the space, along with a single exhaust with stock
style muffler. Power disc brakes are on board, now with a GM brake
pump and master cylinder, front and rear and the coil springs on
all four corners are augmented with Rod Hall expanded capacity
remote reservoir off road racing shock absorbers.
Drive-Ability
We open our wide garage door and rock this Humvee onto the test
loop and the diesel does the job with ease. The big tires help with
the lifted ride and track straight over our flat terrain. Yes, the
seats are comfortable for an original military issue and the soft
shell allows you hear the engine working. We noticed the brake
lights are not working and the dash brake light is on. Also, the
horn is not working, so if they don't get out of your way, just go
over. Meanwhile, all other functions report for duty! While Classic
Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time
of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be
working at the time of your purchase.
Bug Out ride, snow stomping winter chariot, or just in your face
daily driver, this one has some nice upgrades that are a few steps
above that crusty auction Humvee you were looking at. The work's
been done for you and retains its U.S. armed forced badassery!
