Not all that many classic Camaros rolled off the assembly line
bearing the dual distinctions worn by this 1967 Chevrolet Camaro
RS/SS 350, and most of them have long since fallen by the wayside.
And, not only does this vintage Chevy combine the hidden
headlights, a special front grille, and other appearance upgrades
with enhanced power and a more action-oriented suspension that come
via its elevated status, but it also features a level of
factory-correctness that's truly hard to come by. As if this didn't
set it apart enough, its Royal Plum paint represents an original
Chevy color offering that was only available the year it rolled
out, so this is one singular ride we have right here. It arrives at
the present looking thoroughly refreshed, with its paint holding a
deep shine, accented by razor-sharp accent stripes and vibrant
bright work, with a contrasting white vinyl top that's in matching
condition.
The interior has undergone a full restoration while keeping its
factory configuration well intact, with black, vinyl-clad front
bucket seats that are in impressive shape, wearing white accenting
stripes that still look as fresh as they did when the covers were
first installed. The buckets straddle a very clean center console
that features a T-handle shifter and the trio of gauges that came
to be a coveted factory design element when this Camaro first
rolled out. The overall functionality inside the doors is
impressive. The instrument gauges work as intended, the interior
lighting illuminates on cue, and the windows roll up and down
without incident.
As you raise the hood, don't let the stock configuration of the
engine compartment lead you to the conclusion that this Chevy
hasn't seen the attention needed to keep it running in top
mechanical form. Its 350-cubic-inch V8 is fed by a 4-barrel
Quadrajet carburetor and is running smooth and strong, sending a
nice, rich note out of the dual exhaust and combining with a
2-speed automatic Powerglide transmission to provide an outstanding
experience behind the wheel. Power steering makes this vintage
muscle car easy to maneuver, and the upgraded suspension that comes
via its elevated Super Sport status yields strong cornering
ability.
