If you are looking for a vehicle that is guaranteed to turn heads
and make you a bunch of new friends, then there is no better car
than this 1965 Shelby Cobra Factory Five Mark IV 427. Painted in a
beautiful Lexus Indigo Blue with a pair of complementary silver
racing stripes, this open-top roadster has just 2001 miles on it
since it was built and brings all the no-nonsense power and
performance of Shelby's original masterpiece, and adds a few extras
to make it even more fun to drive.
Inside, we find the traditional no-frills Cobra interior. Dual
bucket seats are separated by a big transmission tunnel, topped by
a signature reverse-angle shifter. A three-spoke padded steering
wheel is assisted by a KRC power steering pump, which operates a
power rack-and-pinion setup. Just ahead of that wheel sits a pair
of gauges, featuring an 8,000-rpm tachometer and a
quirky-but-correct Shelby-style reversed 180-mph speedometer. A
five-pod Speed Hut auxiliary gauge cluster takes up residence
center-dash. Door pockets, Simpson racing harnesses, and a chrome
driver's roll hoop round out the accoutrements of this speedy
Spartan interior.
Under that signature front-hinged hood, we find an incredible 427
cubic-inch overhead-valve V-8 engine that began life as a 351
Windsor, bored and stroked to the iconic displacement. Featuring an
aesthetically awesome-looking 8-stack FAST EFI intake system, this
Dart SHP block is outfitted with Scat H-beam rods, Mahale forged
pistons, and a roller-rocker setup. Equipped with an MSD ignition,
lightweight RHS aluminum cylinder heads, long-tube headers, and, of
course, those stellar side pipes. Power is routed through a Tremec
TKO600 five-speed manual transmission, Quicktime bell housing, and
a hydraulic Kevlar clutch, which adds a useful overdrive gear
compared to Shelby's original car. Seventeen-inch Halibrand-style
wheels are shod with Kumho tires measuring 255/40ZR-17 at the front
and massive 315/35ZR-17 at the rear.
