1986 Dodge Power Ram 150 Royal SE Short Bed 4x4 Pickup
"So this is Beverly Hills, son. Guess I'll get used to it. A rodeo
and the best hotel is pink! I'm checking in, they're checking out,
and my machine is standing out. What's the matter with y'all, ain't
you ever seen a truck? Beverly Hills truck, a hero has arrived, the
new Dodge truck, starring in their eyes!" Lyrics from a 1986 Dodge
Ram commercial showing a cowboy and his Power Ram roaming amongst
Cadillacs and Jaguars in Beverly Hills.
For consignment, a 1986 Dodge Ram 150 Royal SE short bed 4x4 pickup
with a title verified 98,156 actual miles. When the Power Wagon
name was retired in 1981, Dodge retained the Power name for the
Rams and assignment to 150 and 250 4x4 models.

Exterior
Dripping with strength, this tall truck is fronted by a finely
detailed and aggressive ram hood ornament that surges forward,
putting an exclamation point on the lane clearing attitude of the
truck itself. Gold paint is sandwiched by black, both in two stage
application and perfectly matched to the 15-inch wheels carrying
massive 35x12.50R15 tires.Lots of chrome out front where single
headlights over marker lights top the big and high bumper while out
back, a brushed aluminum dress plate caps the tailgate over another
impressive chrome bumper. Step ups dot the rocker panels and are a
welcome convenience as are the handles on the C-pillar. The padded,
vinyl tonneau cover is in great shape and the bed is glossy black
and covered with a fitted cloth mat. We found no exterior
imperfections on this 4x4!
Interior
Tan plastic door cards are accented with dark woodgrain inserts
over a carpeted panel below and both doors present in very good
condition, opening up to the cloth bench seat that also is clean. A
black steering wheel shares the column with a tachometer just in
front of a woodgrain faced instrument cluster, A/C panel,
drivetrain indicator, and AM/FM/cassette radio and it's all
fantastically clean. A triple gauge pod has been added below and
the tan plastic dash is immaculate and so is the tan carpet that
covers the floor where a range selector stands tall in a black
shift boot. The camel headliner is just about flawless and our rear
window is a solid one.
Drivetrain
Ready for show and go, we have a 360ci V8 with an Edelbrock
4-barrel carburetor over an Edelbrock intake manifold, sporting
8.2:1 compression, and a cam with 264i/274i duration. It's mated to
an A727 Torqueflite 3-speed automatic transmission sending power to
the rear 9.25 axle and as needed, the Dana 44 up front. With a few
Mopar branded covers, the engine and bay present show worthy
clean!
Undercarriage
Thanks to gold shock absorbers, the black and gold motif continues
on the clean underside where dual exhaust finds FlowMaster mufflers
and exit via chrome tips. There are no catalytic converters on
board. Power disc brakes are up front with power drums on the back
and leaf springs are employed front and rear on this factory
4x4.
Drive-Ability
Hamstrings be damned, we're climbing up! It's quite a height too,
from which you can see the road ahead of you and the contents of
the car next to you. Meanwhile, the engine comes to life with a
very healthy exhaust note and we row this truck to Drive and onto
the loop where it demonstrates respectable power and straight
tracking. Sure, the knobby tires are going to make some noise on
the asphalt, but we expected that and at slow speeds, it mostly
disappears. The A/C is not working but all other functions on board
work as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these
functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot
guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your
purchase.
Clean, well sorted and relatively uncommon, this Power Ram is going
to be a hot commodity so we encourage you to make like a bighorn
sheep and not let anything get in your way of calling the mall with
interest. This capable truck is pure mid-80's Americana at its best
and this clean example will be as comfortable as a car show in
Beverly Hill as it will be in the hills of Arkansas. No matter
where you live, this classic will stand out.
