"Fast forward to now, and at a glance Ford is reviving that same
formula: a stronger engine in a Mustang, delivering more power,
more torque, better handling, and more visual intimidation.nA
little bit of history repeating, right? Well, yes. But that's at a
glance. Technology hasn't exactly stood still since the last GT500
rolled out of a showroom in 1970, and even though this revival
preserves a good old live axle rear suspension, a mechanical
tradition that has all but disappeared in current passenger cars,
its mechanical credentials are fully contemporary. Not to mention
seriously potent." Car and Driver, July 2005, first test of the
2007 GT500
For consignment, a 2007 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 coupe with a
title verified 25,619 miles. This one wasn't quite fast enough for
a previous owner, so modifications were made resulting in a proven
754 horsepower and some cosmetic add ons that have this Shelby
standing out from the stock versions, and resulting in multiple
show wins in the past two years.
Exterior
From straight on nothing unusual here, as the Performance White
paint and Vista Blue stripes, gaping black intakes, integrated fog
lamps, and the poised Cobra on the grille all pretty typical for a
GT500. Swing over to the side of the car and extra cladding covers
side pipes with dual tips on each side and extends the rear quarter
panel for a road racing profile. 18-inch Weld Wheels are very
dramatic and have staggered tires that are from late 2022 or newer,
and the stock wheels come with the car. Out back, that rear
cladding turns the corner and extends the valance, flanking the
splitter, and white trim pieces have been added to the tail lights.
Let's not ignore the aggressive looking quarter window scoops and
of course, the GT stripe over the rocker panels. A scuff on the
chin and a single paint imperfection are the only flaws we see on
the exterior.
Interior
The perforated door inserts of this generation Mustang are well
known for coming loose, the glue wearing out over time, and the
high performance GT500 is not spared this process as there is
evidence on the otherwise clean, black door panels. The front
buckets are black leather with pleated inserts supported by mildly
swollen side supports and these, along with the rear 2+2, are in
great condition, as you would expect. An airbag fits in a badged
circle in the center of the steering wheel which is wrapped in
leather and stitched with red. Ahead of you, the straight forward
gauge package with red needles that light up and the SVT acronym
accenting the tachometer. The center stack begins with a Shaker
1000 AM/FM/6 CD radio and standard A/C knobs, then the red
stitching makes its way to the boot of the stout shifter, white
ball with blue stripes, in the center console while black carpet
below is protected by Shelby branded mats. The charcoal foam backed
headliner above is clean and the trunk contains a carpeted, fitted
covering with the Shelby GT500 logo, presenting in spotless
condition, like the rest of the interior. It contains the large
Shaker 1000 subwoofer.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is the 5.4 liter DOHC V8 with a Trinity TVS
supercharger, VMP twinjet 67mm throttle body, JLT cold air intake,
and Innovators West crank pulley. The fuel injectors are from a
2014 GT500 and the whole beast mode motor is mated to a Tremec T56
6-speed manual transmission routing power to the built rear end, a
8.8" Ford unit with Yukon 4.11 gears and Moser axles. American
Racing headers have been added. This tasty little build was dyno'd
at 754 horsepower.
Undercarriage
Clean underneath with Cervini's stainless exhaust and sidepipes
taking the spotlight. By the way, the original exhaust will come
with the car. Power disc brakes, of course, are at all four wheels
with Brembos employed up front. Suspension includes Macpherson
struts in front and a 3 link with coil springs and panhard bar in
back.
Drive-Ability
We've represented our share of G500's and are happy to see them off
to new homes, and this feels pretty standard on the inside, but a
turn of the key results in an extremely healthy exhaust note that's
closer to your ear. It runs well, has beastly power, great
handling, and all functions operate as they should. This snake is
ready to become someone's new pet! While Classic Auto Mall
represents that these functions were working at the time of our
test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at
the time of your purchase.
