In the world of car collections, unique and rare vehicles often
command significant value for would-be owners. When it debuted in
1997, the fifth-generation of Chevy's Corvette was considered by
many as the beginning of the modern era of the General's halo car.
Lasting almost a decade, this 2004 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible
CRC Conversion represents the final model year of the venerable C5,
while also harking back to the beloved first generation thanks to
the full 1962 body conversion by Classic Reflection Coachworks.
With a mere 37,035 actual miles on its odometer, its custom blend
of Flame and Guards red paint looks brighter and cleaner than
anything from the 1960s. With its swoopy classic lines stretched
over its modern powertrain, this Corvette is perfect for anyone who
wants to steal the show anywhere it goes.
Inside, we find an original-looking black-and-red leather interior.
A locking center console separates a pair of supportive power
bucket seats. A power-assisted, four-spoke, padded steering wheel
featuring the Crossed Flags emblem sits just ahead of the six-pod
analog gauge cluster, which includes a 7,000-RPM tachometer and a
200-mph speedometer. A trick Heads-Up Display makes keeping your
eyes on the road much easier than in previous generations, while
power mirrors, locks, and windows, cruise control, and air
conditioning add all the modern amenities required for a
comfortable drive.
Though it is styled from six decades ago, the signature
front-hinged hood remains. Under it, we find a 5.7-liter
overhead-valve LS1 V-8 engine. With its beautiful Corvette valve
covers, aluminum blocks and heads, and composite intake manifold,
this modern small block was capable of pumping out 350 horsepower
at 5,600 RPM and 360 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 RPM when it
rolled off the assembly line. Power is routed through a
rear-mounted 4L60E four-speed automatic transmission before heading
to the transaxle that transfers that muscle to the tarmac via a set
of staggered Z06-style chrome wheels.
