Looking for a classic that's sure to stand out in any setting? Then
you'll want to check out this 1952 International Harvest Pickup
4x4. It's got an awesome, post-apocalyptic "Beyond Thunderdome"
sensibility that pairs with its unexpectedly good road manners, and
with its distinctive appearance and attention-grabbing paint
scheme, you won't have much concern that someone else will pull up
behind the wheel of anything like it. Some of the modifications
made to this '50s workhorse could use a little further attention,
but a significant amount of the heavy lifting has already been
done, and in the right hands, this could be a seriously compelling
project that will yield a stellar result. And just look at that
front end! With its bulldog-like underbite, this classic pickup
appears like it's about to tear into anything foolish enough to
venture in front of it.
Inside the doors is an interior that represents a nearly blank
slate for your future restoration ambitions, but is also
serviceable in its present state. The vinyl-covered bench seat is
surprisingly comfortable, and you'll find no jutting springs to
hamper your driving experience. The door panels to each side are
well-fitted and harbor a pair of added speakers to bring tunes from
the added Bluetooth receiver into the cabin. Just in front of the
steering wheel that - like several other components - began life on
a mid-'80s Dodge Dakota, a collection of accompanying gauges from
the same era is in place, and while their fit could use a bit of
refinement, both the speedometer and tachometer work as intended,
the heater blower is functional and the windows roll up and down
with no issue. The rear bed looks straight and solid, as well.
Climb inside, fire up the engine, and you'll likely be pleasantly
surprised by the result. There's a 3.9-liter Magnum V6 now residing
beneath the hood, and it's running nicely, fed by electronic fuel
injection and pairing with a 5-speed manual transmission to make up
a drivetrain that provides a good driving experience, even at
freeway speeds. This singular-classic pickup is built on a 1980s
Dodge Dakota 4x4 platform, and while the adaptation work could use
a closer inspection, and possibly even a bit of additional work,
the upgrade pays real-life dividends in the form of a more refined
ride, fully functional 4-wheel drive, power steering and power
brakes that position discs up front.
