Way back in 1970 when the Dodge Challenger came out a new class in
drag racing made its debut, Pro Stock! The new Pro Stock class
featured cars you could buy off the showroom floor, heavily modify
the chassis, get the baddest engines known to mankind thrown in it,
and go drag racing hoping to get in the elusive 10-second 1/4 mile
club. Boy, the "Good OL' Days" could have never imagined this!
Dodge's Demon 170 is the ultimate F.U. to the bureaucrats in
Washington making the rules. Rules are meant to be broken and this
one year only, 1025 horsepower, once-in-a-lifetime Demon 170 broke
them all!
If you knew someone (your banker!) you could order one of the 3301
quarter-mile beasts! Well, we know a guy, a guy who likes all the
options. Out of those built, fewer than 8% were painted Go Mango
orange, and out of those only 25% had Carbon Fiber wheels and only
23% of those had a sunroof and basically every other option
available!
So while we all dream of drag racing like the good ol' days a
little A/C, a nice stereo, and all the creature comforts are nice
too. The creature comforts can be turned and the launch, and I mean
launch control can be engaged all on the way to an 8.9-second
quarter mile! We've never tried as it's only been pulled into the
garage from the trailer but I've had my ass in the passenger seat
of one and it's simply terrifying. The 70s were good for muscle
cars but 2023 will always be remembered as the pinnacle.
