This 1959 Volkswagen 23-window microbus re-creation underwent a professional 23-window conversion by Grumpy's Metal of Huntington Beach, CA. It is powered by a replacement 1,600cc air-cooled flat-4 engine with an AS21 magnesium case, Bosch 009 distributor, dual-port heads, sidewinder exhaust and a rebuilt 4-speed manual transaxle with a synchronized first gear. The electrical system has been upgraded to 12-volt with an alternator, and the suspension was refreshed with new shocks, rear axle boots and tie rods, while braking is handled by a front disc conversion with rear drums. The interior features three rows of bench seating upholstered in tan vinyl with blue-patterned cloth inserts, mohair headliner, rubber flooring, lap belts, a parcel shelf, Wolfsburg-crest steering wheel, radio block-off plate and a "church key" accessory. Originally finished in Dove Blue, it is now presented in turquoise and white with deluxe trim, bullet turn signals, safari windshields, a sliding fabric sunroof, eight skylights and six pop-out side windows.
