INTRODUCTION: Documented, real deal and true #s matching! Sold new
at the legendary high performance dealer: Baldwin Chevrolet. It has
its original protect-o-plate and invoice, not fakes. Both verify
the car was born as you see it. The numbers on the motor,
transmission and colors are authentic.
INTERESTING SIDE NOTE: Sold new to Nicholas Papanicolaou, he paid
cash for the car while attending Harvard University. His address on
the documents is where the wealthy students lived. He must have
done his studying because he went on to do many notable and great
things including being CEO of Aston Martin.
EXTERIOR: Factory code 76-76 Daytona Yellow without a vinyl top.
Clean straight body, dry metal even along the bottom. Aggressively
dressed with a cowl hood and spoilers. Repainted and polished
smooth and glossy, you can't feel the stripes! The chrome and trim
looks great, it has correct antenna and rear bumper guards. The
windshield and rear window were replaced. Only Z-28s had 15 inch
wheels which this has, and the trim sparkles! It's even wearing
reproduction GoodYear Wide Tread GT tires. The finishing touches
are the Baldwin dealer sticker and license plate frame!
INTERIOR: Completely restored to its original glory! Reproduction
cushions, upholstery, door panels, armrests etc. fresh looking
carpet on the floor with Z28 mats. Overhead is a tight headliner
with working dome light. The entire dash area is very clean and it
has an optional eight grand tachometer, clock with quartz movement,
new heater control panel, and the original AM radio is still in
place. Down in the console it has the gauge cluster and Hurst
shifter. It also has a deluxe rosewood steering wheel.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: The very spirited, high revving DZ 302! It was
blatantly underrated at 290hp, it was actually closer to 375hp.
This motor is original to this car with correct casting code and
date, proper stamp code and date along with matching VIN stamped by
oil filter which is virtually impossible to tamper with. It also
has correct double hump heads, aluminum intake and matching numbers
Holley dual feed carb. It has stock exhaust manifolds, finned
aluminum valve covers and on top is a complete functional cowl
induction system! It is upgraded with electronic ignition under the
stock cap. Because it is a high revving motor they came with deep
groove pulleys which this has. It even has a complete and correct
smog system! The cooling system is proper with correct hoses,
clamps, shroud and even its original dated fan. They all come
equipped with power brakes, this one has the correct cadmium plated
booster. Other details include the PBT markings on the firewall,
correct horns, spark plug shields, fuel line, hood insulation,
spring clamp battery cables etc. It's like we're in 1969 looking at
it in the showroom!
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Under the trunk lid and jamb are painted slick.
Inside is clean metal with a neatly painted spatter finish. It is
complete with the jack and 15 inch rally wheel with a BFG tire.
UNDERSIDE: The Z-28 package included performance suspension,
brakes, exhaust, steering and rear end. This one has been body off
frame restored, everything was removed from under the car. The
steering and suspension was gone through, it was upgraded with Koni
gas shocks. features under the car as well. The brake system was
restored to original with disc brakes in front, drum in back. The
lines, hoses and e-brake cables were replaced. The dual exhaust is
correct running into a transverse muffler and back into 2 pipes.
The fuel system was replaced. Looking up at the engine it is clean
Chevy orange, the starter looks fresh. The original, # matching
Muncie 4-speed and linkage look fresh too. A rebuilt driveshaft
leads back to a 12 bolt posi rear end. The floors look clean and
are painted satin black.

CONCLUSION: The Z-28 was built to compete in Trans Am racing which
had a 305 cubic inch limit, the DZ 302 is a legendary performer! At
7,000 rpm they are still pulling. This Z is worthy of any
collection because it is the real deal! Not to mention restored
beautifully and has a great history. There's others, they aren't
this one!
