"No matter what your business is, this smartly styled Chevrolet
Sedan Delivery will build prestige for you in any neighborhood. Its
advanced passenger car chassis will supply the efficient,
economical performance so essential in light delivery service. And
its wide range of utility makes this model adaptable to many
businesses and many purposes. " From the 1955 Task Force Panel
Truck brochure.
For consignment, a 1955 Chevrolet 150 Sedan Delivery showing 510
miles, but the true miles are unknown. This one enjoys power from a
more modern Chevrolet, the Corvette, and would have been the
delivery champ in 1955 if only that technology was available!
Exterior
From 20 feet, the Gypsy Red paint is striking in this body style,
with acres of panels in red coverage. Get closer and the patina
shows with chipping paint, areas of surface rust, cracking and
crackling paint throughout, and evident filler. Now that we've
established that, let's look at the classic lines of the wagon,
touted as sharing it's platform with the passenger car but with the
panel back, looking much longer. The polished parts remain
including the fuel door trim, tail light housing, bumpers, light
rings, and grille. That's all enhanced by the 15-inch polished
American Racing Torque Thrust wheels that carry slightly staggered
size tires and dual exhaust tips also benefit from a mirror like
shine. Don't let the paint issues stop you from reading, this 150
has a clean interior and nice little transplant under the hood.
Interior
Red carpet lines the floor and red velour covers the walls and
headliner in the cargo area, making it hospitable for both people
and packages alike. Up front, the doors wear the same red velour
here stitched in a spider web design. Things turn a bit more
conservative on the seat which is a gray cloth split bench with a
black bowtie on each side, and it all presents in good condition.
An 80's/90's steering wheel is offered to the driver and leads to a
Dakota Digital dash within the fan shaped portal and the bowtie
stamped mid-panel that stretches the width will forever be epic. A
clever cupholder has been added and the passenger gets a direct
view of the analog clock while our shifter rises from a plastic
base on the transmission tunnel over black carpet piece that is
clean.
Drivetrain
If the question is trick or treat, this is a treat! Here's a 5.7
liter LS1 V8, fuel injected with bright red valve covers and for
everyone who screams LS swap, LS swap!, here's your dream come
true. Ours too! It's mated to a rebuilt 4L60E 4-speed automatic
transmission that routes power to 4.11 gears in back. An aluminum
radiator and polished air intake pipe further dress things up under
the hood.
Undercarriage
All clean underneath with a surprisingly polished rear axle and
power steering linkage creating some underside bling. New brakes
according to our consignor, here as power disc up front and power
drum in the back. Dual exhaust travels through Flow FX mufflers by
Flowmaster, then straight back to chrome tips. Suspension includes
coil spring up front, tubular control arms, and leaf springs in
back.
Drive-Ability
Throw some wheel covers on this car and a pedestrian color, and
you'll have the ultimate sleeper! With red paint and "mag" wheels
however, the power lives up to the presentation as the LS delivers
healthy acceleration and the stout 4L60E competently transfers
power to the 4.11's out back. And the cherry on top of this red
wagon is that all functions available to the driver operate just as
they should and we deliver this Chevrolet back to the mall! While
Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at
the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions
will be working at the time of your purchase.
Potential here to roll with the patina on the outside and surprise
the unexpecting Camaro at the traffic light. Or, redo the paint
with the color of your dreams. As is, the uncommon sedan delivery
is a cool car, maybe even cooler than passenger station wagons
currently enjoying widespread adoration. We know there are people
out there just waiting for these to show up in the marketplace and
we're happy to respond to your call of interest!
