1968 Chevrolet Chevelle - SS-Style Restomod • 496ci Stroker •
5-Speed • Vintage Air • Documented Build
If you love the timeless lines of a '68 Chevelle but want modern
power, manners, and reliability, this SS-style hardtop checks every
box. Finished in a striking metallic blue with a black vinyl roof
and sitting over period-correct steelies and dog-dish caps, it
looks every bit the classic street brawler. Open the hood and
you'll find a fresh, BluePrint Engines 496ci big-block with dyno
paperwork, MSD ignition, Holley carburation, aluminum cooling, and
long-tube headers feeding a stainless dual exhaust with an X-pipe.
A Silver Sport-supplied Tremec 5-speed sends power rearward, and
the cabin is upgraded with Vintage Air A/C, a Kenwood head unit,
and bucket seats with a factory console. The build is supported by
a binder of invoices, warranty sheets, and the engine dyno sheet
(peak ~651 hp / ~607 lb-ft shown).
Exterior
Deep metallic blue paint with great gloss and uniform panel
alignment; SS hood callouts and SS 396 grille and fender badging
complete the SS look.
Black vinyl top presents cleanly and fits tight to the
roofline-classic '60s contrast that sets off the color.
Brightwork, emblems, and glass show very well; bumpers and grille
are straight and shine nicely.
Steel wheels with smooth "poverty" caps deliver that sleeper vibe;
wrapped in BFGoodrich g-Force Comp-2 A/S performance radials for
modern grip.
Trunk compartment is finished in proper spatter paint with a
full-size spare and jack components.
Interior
Black bucket-seat interior with factory-style console and Hurst
white cue-ball shifter-simple, clean, and driver-focused.
Dash features stock-style dual pods with upgraded readouts, clear
lenses, and crisp backlighting.
Vintage Air integrated control panel and dash vents provide
reliable, cold A/C and effective heat/defrost.
Kenwood audio head unit with modern functionality tucked cleanly
beneath the HVAC panel.
Door panels, headliner, seat upholstery, and carpets present very
nicely, with tidy pedal box and sill trim.
Aluminum intake manifold with Holley 4-barrel carburetor (polished
bowls and fittings).
MSD Digital 6AL ignition box and wiring for strong spark and easy
tuning.
Polished BluePrint valve covers; braided lines and quality AN
fittings throughout.
Dyno sheet included showing approx. 650.9 hp peak power and ~607
lb-ft of torque (SAE J-607 corrected).
Heavy-duty aluminum radiator and Derale shroud/dual-fan setup keep
temps controlled in traffic and heat.
Long-tube headers feeding a stainless dual-exhaust with
X-pipe-deep, authoritative big-block tone without drone.
Transmission, Driveline & Chassis
Tremec 5-speed (TKO/TKX) conversion sourced from Silver Sport
Transmissions with supporting invoices; ideal ratios for both
in-town punch and highway cruising.
Smooth, positive clutch engagement; firm, precise shifter throws
with the white Hurst knob.
Power brake system with front discs and rear drums-confident,
straight stops.
Undercarriage shows clean floors, solid rails, tidy brake/fuel
routing, and the stainless exhaust system.
Suspension retains the classic Chevelle stance with updated
shocks/springs for a planted, confident ride.
Documentation & Spares
Comprehensive paperwork: BluePrint Engines warranty documents &
break-in/oil recommendations, engine installation booklet, dyno
sheet, parts invoices, and Silver Sport Transmissions sales
orders.
Assorted service receipts (including transmission fluid service and
A/C system work), plus general build notes.
Cowl tag photo and various identification decals retained.
Driving Impressions
Turn the key and the 496 lights quickly, idling with a healthy cam
note through the X-pipe system. Throttle response is immediate-big
torque down low with a rush to redline that belies the car's size.
The 5-speed transforms the experience: short gearing for blistering
launches, then relaxed cruising in overdrive. Steering tracks true,
the brakes are confidence-inspiring, and the Vintage Air keeps the
cabin cool on hot days-exactly what you want from a well-executed
restomod.
