Cruisin Classics is pleased to present to you this 1972 El Camino.
This El Camino comes to us today with a nice driver-quality respray
in its original color - Orange Flame (65) with black SS hood
stripes and a black vinyl top (B). The cowl hood also features
"396" badges, hood pins, and bright trim on the rear edge. Beneath
is a black horizontal grill with SS badging flanked by round
headlights in square bezels. The chrome front bumper below is in
excellent condition, as is the one in the rear. Moving around to
the side of the car, more bright work comes into focus with
windshield trim, drip rail molding, window trim, door edge guards,
driver's side mirror, and door handles. Wipers hide away below the
cowl hood for a nice, clean look. Both fenders wear "El Camino" and
"SS" badges in good condition. The black vinyl top is in excellent
condition and looks like new. Bright trim surrounds the bed, which
is topped off with a soft black vinyl lift-up tonneau cover with
hydraulic strut arms that keep it in place. The bed underneath is
very clean and kept nice with a fitted black rubber mat. At the
rear, you'll find wrap-around taillights, dual exhaust, and a
tailgate with a "Hurst Equipped" badge and black "SS" badged center
panel. Completing the look of this mean El Camino is a set of
polished 5-spoke REV wheels all wrapped in white-letter Mastercraft
Avenger G/T tires.
Pull the pins and lift the hood to reveal a clean and organized
engine bay that's home to a healthy 396ci V-8 that date-codes to
1968-69. The orange big block is topped off with chrome valve
covers, an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, an Edelbrock AVS2
4-barrel carburetor, and a chrome air cleaner with "396" decal.
Other highlights include power steering, a chrome alternator and
bracket, and a chrome radiator cover. Exhaust flows through headers
and dual mufflers before exiting the tailpipes with an
authoritative rumble. Stopping power comes courtesy of power front
discs and rear drums. The big V-8 is mated up to a 4-speed Muncie
manual transmission (that dates to 1968-70) that sends power to a
GM 12-bolt rear with freeway-friendly 3.31 positraction gears and
an "SS" rear cover. This El Camino is equipped to do everything
from a tire-smoking burn-out to taking a leisurely drive down the
highway to a car show in another town.
When you open the driver's door, you're greeted by a very
well-presented black interior illuminated by a working courtesy
light. The black deluxe door panels feature "SS 396" badges, cranks
for both the primary and vent windows, and a driver's mirror
toggle. There is some peeling of the decorative silver trim, but
they are in otherwise good condition. A black vinyl bench seat in
very good condition welcomes you to take a drive. The seat is quite
comfortable and has obviously been re-covered. Underfoot is
high-quality black hook and loop carpet that's kept nice with a set
of black carpeted "SS 396" logo floormats with orange borders.
Rising up from the floor is a Hurst shifter with a black boot and a
white pattern ball. An "SS" steering wheel fronts a crack-free
black dash with nice bright trim around the gauge and instrument
bezel. The dash is home to a brand new set of round Dakota Digital
gauges, including volts, fuel, temp, oil, as well as an 8K
tachometer and a 160mph speedometer. The gauges look great with
their red sweeps, and they offer digital readouts that include a
clock, digital tach, digital speedometer, 0-60 times, mile times,
and more. Also in the dash are controls for the working 2-speed
wipers, working heat and fan, working lighter, and an
original-looking AM/FM push-button radio that plays through the
dash speakers. Under the dashboard to the driver's right is a trio
of Autogage gauges that are inoperable. Ahead of the passenger is a
glovebox, and overhead is a tight black perforated vinyl
headliner.
If you're on the hunt for a cool old-school El Camino, you're going
to want to give this one a serious look! Late 60's big block,
4-speed Muncie, power steering, power brakes, lift-up tonneau
cover, Dakota Digital Dash, comfortable and good-looking interior,
great wheel and tire combo - this Chevy sure does check a lot of
boxes! You sure couldn't build this car for what we're asking for
it! Give our friendly staff a call today before someone else
snatches this beauty up!
