For 1971, there were 70,854 Cutlass Supremes produced. Of them,
10,255 were convertibles. If we remove the 1,414 442 equipped cars
that were convertibles, that means just 8,841 1971 Cutlass Supremes
convertibles, (non-442/W-30), were produced. It makes sense that
the 71's are relatively uncommon here at the mall.
For consignment, a 1971 Cutlass Supreme convertible showing 68,390
miles, but the true miles are unknown. What is known is that this
is a survivor car with a numbers matching drivetrain and a clean
presentation.
Exterior
Lime Green coats this car in gleaming consignor statedfactory
applied single stage coverage and the 14-inch Olds Super Stock II
wheel inserts are painted to match. The grille, chrome bumpers,
headlight bezels, and other metal work around the car remain in
fantastic condition and the white canvas convertible top and its
glass window also show very well, with some of the typical
discoloration expected on white. Color matched sport mirrors are on
both sides and the stacked tail lights are pleasantly simple and
instantly recognizable. White stripes accentuate the side body
lines and also wrap the stamped sections of the hood, providing a
coordinated feature with the soft top. Imperfections include paint
run, a ding, and a touched up scratch at a wheel opening.
Interior
White vinyl adorns the door panels with large, simulated wood
inserts that house the contrasting door pull and both portals are
in great shape. Those wood sections create a cohesive line of
walnut that extends onto the dash which houses clean
instrumentation and an AM/FM radio. The newer front split bench
seats are done in white vinyl with center armrest and headrests
included and the condition to include the newer rear bench is very
nice. We love the courtesy light integrated in the forward corner
of the back panel armrest. A 4 spoke sport steering wheel shares
the column with the automatic shifter and to the left of the column
we note a power switch for the top. Black loop style carpet is
clean below and the trunk is covered with gray mat and houses a
covered spare.
Drivetrain
The bay is clean and is home to the numbers matching 350ci Rocket
V8 with a 4-barrel carburetor and mated to its numbers matching
TH350 3-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the 12
bolt rear axle.
Undercarriage
Very clean conditions prevail underneath where the dual exhaust
runs through stock style mufflers and exit without fanfare under
the car in back. Power drum brakes are at all four wheels where
225/70R14 tires with a late 2023 date code wrap the 14-inch wheels.
Suspension includes coil springs front and rear with a 4 link in
back.
Drive-Ability
A sweet exhaust is dispensed by the dual exhaust as we bring the 54
year old drivetrain to life. Slide the shifter in Drive and hit the
gas, and the A-body performs as if it drank from the fountain of
youth. Good power, straight tracking, nice handling, and with the
top down, the smiles per gallon are going to be extensive. We find
only the clock not working on our functionality test and we return
this lime ride to the mall to find a nice spot to squeeze it into.
While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were
working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these
functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
A real survivor that holds its numbers matching drivetrain, power
brakes, power steering, power windows! Green means go so don't tap
the brakes on this one or you'll be waving goodbye to a very nice
'71 Cutlass. Everything's better with a little lime in it,
including your garage. We'll wait by the phone.
