"For 1996, Fleetwood's commanding look, legendary performance, and
uncompromised standard of interior accommodations are carried to an
even higher level of refinement. Under the hood, a 5.7 liter V8
provides ample power for grand touring or an unrivaled towing
capacity of up to 7,000 pounds. Fleetwood Brougham's commanding
look and luxurious interior define it as one of America's greatest
luxury sedans." From the Fleetwood sales brochures.
For consignment, a 1996 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham four door sedan
with a title verified 44,484 actual miles. This one will come to
you with the original windows sticker, owner's manuals, and other
documentation.
Exterior
It seems the word stately is an understatement in the case of this
long Cadillac, dressed in Medium Marblehead Metallic, a rich gray
augmented by chrome accenting. It has almost limousine proportions
and a rear door that's almost as long as the fronts. The vinyl
covered C-pillar remains shallow as it intersects the high decklid
that helps to create a whale sized rear quarter and limitless space
in the trunk. This profile is further enhanced by fender skirts
that lengthen the quarter and a broad chrome rocker panel is a
dressy showpiece that adds an air of royalty to the car. Not to be
outdone, the 15-inch chrome wheels are elaborate and framed with
gold line tires. Fiber optic indicators ride the front fenders to
let you know what lights are on and working. The tail lights are
characteristically Cadillac and cap the elegant lines of this
cruiser. This low mileage Cadillac shows no glaring exterior
imperfections.
Interior
The royal treatment continues where the long doors combine soft
gray materials and dark simulated wood hardware faceplates and
black based switchgear with metal buttons, and each is impeccable.
Another switch panel clings to the side of the cloud-like 70/30
split bench seat in gray leather stitched vertically for the
Brougham, and along with the rear bench, presents cleanly. A solid
gray steering wheel leads to a woodgrain trimmed instrument cluster
with digital readouts in lieu of analog dials, and columns of
indicator lights to each side. A wood header piece looms over the
width of the dash and push button controls dominate the A/C panel
and AM/FM/Cassette/CD player in the center. Low pile gray carpet
cleanly covers the floor and the foam backed headliner is just
about perfect and houses vanity mirrors for the rear passengers and
fiber optic indicators for the brake lights. Nearly 22 cubic feet
of space is in the trunk, nicely finished with gray cloth, and a
cargo net and space saver spare are included.
Drivetrain
Under the long hood is a 5.7 liter LT1 V8, fuel injected and
putting out 260 horsepower. It is backed by a 4L60E 4-speed
automatic and power is routed to the 10 bolt axle with 2.93 gears.
The bay presents in clean and stock configuration.
Undercarriage
Super clean underneath with minimal surface rust and just a film of
fluid on the transmission pan but no active leaks. Power disc
brakes are supplied up front and power drums do the job in back.
Dual exhaust flows through original equipment mufflers and
resonators terminating unceremoniously under the back of the car.
Suspension consists of coil springs front and rear with a 4 link in
back.
Drive-Ability
Gray clouds might mean dreary weather outside, but this gray cloud
floats along and provides clear views and good times. Comfortable,
surefooted, and powerful, the Fleetwood floats over the asphalt
like a magic carpet and you can barely hear the engine running.
With such low mileage and an obviously pampered past, all functions
on board work as they should, and we glide it back to the mall to
find a big spot under the lights. While Classic Auto Mall
represents that these functions were working at the time of our
test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at
the time of your purchase.
Cadillacs would continue to shrink in future years, and this
represents one of the last, great land yachts known for their over
the top luxury and size. We see this parked gracefully in a
circular driveway with some concrete lion sentries flanking each
side. But it doesn't matter what your driveway looks like, this car
might up your property value and standing in the HOA on day
one.
