This outrageous 1941 Willys replica is a real jolt to the senses. The bright orange paint, big rear tires, and polished 8-71 supercharger contribute to a car that draws a ton of attention wherever it goes.
This build shows fewer than 3,000 miles since completion in 2016. Subsequent work included installing the present engine in 2022 along with upgraded suspension and brake parts in 2025. Titled as a 1941 Willys, it has the timeless lines of the Americar coupe with its bulbous fenders, symmetric windows, and long trunk. It is one of the most aesthetic hot rod platforms out there. The fiberglass body is painted a brilliant orange and sits on a custom frame fabricated from 2” x 3” square tubing. It rolls on 15” wheels with 5.60-15 tires in front and big 31x16.5 Mickey Thompsons in back. Note a hood is included but has no business on this car.
The engine displaces 383 ci and was built by West Coast Performance. It’s a thing of beauty! This is a fully balanced assembly with aluminum heads and a hydraulic roller camshaft. It is capped by a BDS 8-71 supercharger that is presently making a modest 6-7 psi of boost. Atop the blower sits a pair of Quick Fuel carburetors that are properly tuned for this setup. Everything runs great on pump premium gasoline. Other features include an MSD ignition, wrapped headers, and an aluminum radiator with dual electric fans.
Behind the engine sits an Ed Coan TH400 transmission with a 3,800 rpm TCI torque converter. The custom driveshaft with hoop feeds a strengthened Ford 9” rear end with 3.08 gears. Braking uses a Wilwood master cylinder and 4-wheel discs with drilled rotors. Steering is rack and pinion and requires surprisingly low effort. The front suspension is a Mustang II setup with tubular control arms and adjustable coilovers, while the rear uses an adjustable 4-link with Panhard bar and also has adjustable coilovers.
The custom white leather interior is a great complement to the exterior. The bench seat is surprisingly comfortable and tilts forward to offer some rear storage space. The dash includes all the favorite instruments along with a boost gauge and digital air-fuel meter. A large tachometer with shift light is mounted to the B&M Pro Ratchet shifter with lockout lever. Dual lap belts are also present along with a tilt steering column and power windows. A flannel car cover is also included.
There is nothing like the sight and sound of a blown Willys to get your blood moving. This one really fits the part and has very few miles. To be sure, we are not talking about an everyday driver; it uses a lot of gas, does not have wipers or a heater, and will not be confused with a Cadillac. But when the time comes for a little fun on the street or at a show, this is the one to have.
