Cruisin Classics is excited to present to you this 1964 Pontiac
GTO. This is the GOAT - the car that started it all, the car that
ignited the muscle car craze of the 1960s! In '64, John DeLorean
and his team at Pontiac decided to add a special performance
package to the intermediate-sized LeMans that included a larger
displacement V-8 topped off with an optional tri-power carburetor
set-up that transformed the car into a true 348hp street racer for
a nominal fee of $295 - and the public loved it! This PHS
documented GTO comes to us today wearing a high-quality coat of
Starlight Black paint, a respray of its original color. The slick
black paint paired with bright chrome gives this ride a
head-turning, sinister look. The hood features dual faux scoops
with bright trim and a triangular bulge that culminates with a
Pontiac dart badge at the front. Below is a split chrome-framed
grille with GTO badging flanked by dual side-by-side round
headlights with bright trim. A mirror-finish chrome bumper with
integrated turn signals sits beneath. As you round the side, a
plethora of high-quality brightwork comes into view - including
wiper arms, windshield trim, drip rail molding, window trim, wheel
lip molding, rocker molding, door handles, and driver's side
mirror. Both fenders wear "GTO 6.5 Liter" badges, and the rear
quarters sport "GTO" lettering - letting the car next to you at a
light know what they're up against. Perfectly complementing the
side view are black steel wheels with bright "PMD" dog dish caps,
all wrapped in Coker Classic red-line tires. The view from the rear
includes a spined decklid with Pontiac Dart and GTO badging, a
bright trim panel with integrated taillights and a "Pontiac" gas
fill door, and another gleaming chrome bumper. Take a peek
underneath to find an exceptionally clean undercarriage with a
newer exhaust and gas tank.
Under the hood, you'll find a clean gloss black engine bay that you
can be proud to show off at any car show or event. At the heart is
an era-correct 1967 400ci block painted Pontiac blue and topped off
with a trio of Rochester 2-barrel carburetors with chrome air
cleaners. Other highlights include chrome valve covers, power
steering, coated Hedman headers, and a correct Delco Battery
topper. The hearty V-8 is mated up to a 1967 4-speed manual Muncie
transmission that puts power to the pavement via a 12-bolt rear end
with 3.90 posi-traction gears. Stopping power is provided by manual
drum brakes on all four corners.
Swing open the driver's door to reveal a trim tag-correct Parchment
interior that looks fantastic. The white door panels are OEM style
with armrests and crank windows. Rear side panels match the door
cards, but the window crank handles are stripped. A bright sill
plate leads to black hook & loop carpet that welcomes you inside
for a ride. Both the front bucket and rear bench seats are
recovered in correct white vinyl, and they're free of any
noticeable imperfections. Splitting the front buckets is a center
console with a storage box, a Hurst dog-leg shifter with a white
pattern ball, and a working Pontiac Manifold Vacuum gauge. The
driver is treated to a 3-spoke wood steering wheel with a Pontiac
centercap/horn button (inop.). The steel dash is black with a
machine-turned aluminum gauge bezel that adds to the sporty look.
In the bezel are warning lights for battery, oil pressure, and
temperature, as well as a gas gauge, 120mph speedometer, and
factory tachometer. Also in the bezel are working controls for the
heater and fan. Below is a bright trim strip that's home to
controls for the lights, working single-speed wipers, and a working
AM/FM Pontiac radio that plays through a dash speaker. Mounted
under the dash to the driver's right are a trio of Autogage gauges
that allow you to keep a more exacting eye on voltage, oil
pressure, and water temperature. Ahead of the passenger on the
dashboard is a GTO badge similar to the ones on the fenders.
Beneath is a glovebox that contains an owner's manual. Overhead is
a tight white perforated vinyl headliner. Back in the trunk, you'll
find a houndstooth vinyl mat, a factory jack, a set of black rubber
"GTO" floormats, a California duster, and a high-end car cover from
Hero Covers with a storage bag. This car cover is perfectly fitted
for this car, and it has a life-size image of the car on it - a
very cool extra!
Whether you're looking for an early GTO or just a classic '60s
muscle car, you're going to love this '64! This car looks great,
runs great, sounds great, and it comes with PHS documents that
prove it's a real-deal GTO! GTOs never last long here at Cruisin
Classics, so don't delay, give our friendly staff a call today and
make this one your own!
