"One of the last remnants of rear wheel drive at General Motor was
the G-body, a vehicle platform that had appeared at the end of the
1970s as a reaction to the excesses of that decade. Smaller than
the land whales that had preceded it, the G-body from Chevrolet,
Pontiac, Oldsmobile, and Buick, promised to balance lighter designs
with respectable comfort and a dash of performance. Along the way,
it spawned a legend, flirted with aerodynamic experimentation, and
claimed the title of Detroit's last traditional body on frame daily
driver offered outside of the full size segment."

For consignment, a 1982 Chevrolet Monte Carlo hardtop with a title
verified 104,822 actual miles, but now built and styled for speed.
A huge cowl hood, rear spoiler, and fat rear tires make it clear
this is not your grandmother's base Monte any longer.
Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by
the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws
to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public
highways in your area.*
Exterior
Blacked out quarter windows and a blacked out grille add to the
monochromatic dark as night presentation of the car, with an
aggressive stance made possible by staggered size tires and wheels,
the aluminum slots being 14-inch in front and 15-inch in back. Up
front, that modest grille fills the space between dual headlights,
an aero fascia, and a tall cowl hood. In back, black trimmed tail
lights live under a black spoiler at the end of a flat decklid that
glistens like black ice. Even the sports side mirrors and window
trim are black and this car oozes intimidation just standing still!
On top of its sinister looks, it happens to be in great shape with
the only glaring imperfection being some curb rash on a wheel!
Interior
Blue vinyl door panels are in nice shape, but the hard gray plastic
insert that holds the armrest and switches shows patina with fading
and scratches on both doors Grandma's 70/30 split bench in cloth is
still in place and shows particular wear on the driver's side with
tears and fading, some patina on the passenger side, but the rear
bench are in great shape. The driver is afforded electric
adjustments accessible with a left hand. An ergonomic GT steering
wheel awaits and fronts the standard dash with 85 mph speedometer
and simulated wood trim while a tachometer and shift life is
nestled under the cowl hood. The center stack now includes an
AM/FM/CD player just above some added gauges tucked in the carpet
on the transmission tunnel and that blue carpet extends into the
footwells. Our foam backed headliner is in great shape and the
sizable trunk houses a spare.
Drivetrain
Here's where grandma gets her street cred as she'll be rocking a
clean 350ci V8, bored .030 over with a Crane high lift cam, Brodix
aluminum heads, a fully girdled valvetrain, all topped with a
Holley 650 cfm 4-barrel carburetor over an Edelbrock Victor Jr.
intake. It's mated to a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission
routing power to the 10 bolt axle which our consignor states in
from a Grand National, with 3.42 gear and Positraction. Headers are
onboard to get the gases flowing.
Undercarriage
We'll call it driver quality underneath with the usual coating of
surface rust, some oil on the flywheel cover and rear differential,
and some flaky rust on the floor brace, and it's getting slightly
crunchy under the driver's door. The dual exhaust flows straight
back to FlowMaster mufflers and then immediately dumps underneath.
There is no catalytic converter on board. Power brakes are here
with front disc and rear drum and suspension is configured as coil
springs front and rear with a 4 link in back.
Drive-Ability
With a sound to match its looks, the 350 comes to life and we're
fully prepared to wake up Morgantown as we stretch its legs on the
test loop. We are on 30 year old tires, however, so we're going to
baby it around the circle, and are more concerned about testing
functionality, as it has obvious power underfoot. Only two things
stand out for us, the A/C is not working and the power locks barely
work, but all other functions on board and exterior lights work as
they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these
functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot
guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your
purchase.
This mean looking Monte means business and with a new set of tires
and some TLC, it'll be haunting main streets in your town in no
time at all! This is the kind of badass car you simply don't mess
with at a red light because you don't know what's lurking under
that swollen hood, and that's the way we like it, keep 'em guessing
with this mystery G-body cloaked in black!
