For Sale: 1942 Packard 180 in Bend, Oregon

Vehicle Description

1942 Packard Super Eight 180 Touring Sedan.

Ultra-rare model. Introduced in August of 1941, the 1942 180’s were Packard’s top-of-the-line offering. Little did anyone know, four months after their introduction, America would be at war. When automobile production ended on February 7, 1942, of the 33,776 Packards built during the truncated model 1942 year, the180’s (in all body styles) accounted for just 672 cars. This one of the last of the Senior Packards in a design and body style (with dual side-mounted spare wheels and running boards) never to return after the war. Designed to carry six persons in the ultimate of Packard pre-war luxury. Truly the end of an elegant era.

This model 1542 (180 6-passenger Touring Sedan on a 138” wheelbase) is car number 2060, meaning it was the 59th 180 produced. The data plate under the hood is not stamped by a delivering dealer and the lore following this car down through the years suggests it may have been sent by the factory for use by a high-ranking military official during the duration of World War II.

Some 40 years after the war, this Packard was acquired by a collector in California. Fully restored to show level throughout by Just Packards in Vallejo, CA., with help by Steve Messenger of Martinez, CA., and assistance from Don Figone of Packard Parts West in Santa Rosa, CA. The process took several years, with stunning results. Since the restoration it has been owned and maintained by knowledgeable Packard collectors who have continued to service and upgrade it until today. It is 1 of just 5 believed to now exist.

Beautiful deep "Packard Blue" finish. Brilliant chrome plating. Genuine wood trim inside compliments the blue and gray wool upholstery. FACTORY POWER WINDOWS converted to modern electric motors for positive action. Gorgeous restored plastic interior trim. All gauges rebuilt. Diamondback radial wide whitewall tires.

Rebuilt original 356 cubic inch Super 8 engine produces 165 horsepower. 3-SPEED FACTORY OVERDRIVE TRANSMISSION means this car will easily cruise at modern highway speeds (70 mph+). A veteran of several long-distance tours, most recently in the fall of 2024 for a Classic Car Club of America regional 8-day tour of 1,200 miles around Oregon and Northern California, from sea-level up to the 7,000 foot elevation of Crater Lake National Park without missing a beat. A PROVEN, RELIABLE TOUR CAR. Ready to show or go. Suffice to say this is a rare, dialed-in Classic Packard that will turn heads wherever you go.

WE WILL HAPPILY SELL TO BUYERS WORLDWIDE AND CAN ASSIST WITH SHIPPING ANYWHERE.
