This beautiful 1966 Harley-Davidson FLH Electra Glide Motorcycle has been restored to show quality standards throughout. The 1966 Electra Glide broke new ground for Harley-Davidson's flagship model. It was a pivotal model, marking the introduction of the “Shovelhead” engine and the first year for an electric starter on a Harley big twin. This example was the product of a complete nut and bolt restoration that was completed in 2024. Since completion it was started and run but never driven. MS CLASSIC CARS purchased this motorcycle directly from the owner and restorer in August of 2025. Since the time of purchase it's been a display piece in the MS CLASSIC CARS showroom. October of 2025 is the first time it's been listed for sale. Dare to compare the quality of this motorcycle to others that have sold or that are currently listed for sale.
Prior to the restoration, this was an original black and white motorcycle with 28,795 original miles. This model was designed with a new frame to accommodate the electric starter and 12-volt battery. During the refurbishment it was completely disassembled to a bare frame. Everything on this motorcycle has been repaired, restored or replaced new. The frame was stripped and powder coated black. The 5 gallon fuel tank, front fender, rear fender and saddle bags were refinished in the original colors of black and white. The automotive grade paint is show quality throughout. The tanks were sealed with Red Kote tank sealer. This was the first year for the diamond-shaped tank emblems. The handlebar riser, front fork, swing-arm, oil tank, battery carrier, brake plate and most other black parts were powder coated black. It's equipped with telescopic front forks and dual adjustable rear shocks. The original handlebars, cowling and rocker covers were polished. Some of the original parts that were re-chromed include the bumpers, rear crash bars, seat back rest and shock covers. Some of the reproduction parts include the front crash bar, spot lights, turn signals, luggage rack, saddlebag guards, exhaust pipes, mufflers, battery cover, wiring harness, switches, fork locks, saddlebag locks and ignition lock with keys. It was decorated with new white rubber controls to match the black and white color scheme. The wheel hubs were rebuilt with new rims, stainless steel spokes, tubes and 16” Shinko black wall tires.
This model features a 74 cubic inch (1200cc) air-cooled, overhead valve V-twin “Shovelhead” engine. The key features included aluminum cylinder heads, an electric start system and a new more powerful engine that produced approximately 60 hp with 70 lb-ft at lower RPM. The engine is coupled to a 4-speed manual foot-shifted transmission. The engine and transmission for this example was completely rebuilt. Some of the new parts include new pistons, rods, bearings, clutch and primary chain. The valves were ground and lapped. The original Linkert DC7 carburetor with original choke was rebuilt. It's equipped with the original generator with new regulator. The engine was set to factory setting and started to verify that everything was in working order. . MS CLASSIC CARS had original white seat was re-upholstered in black leather with white stitching and added a new reproduction chrome air cleaner cover.
