When you combine the rugged curb appeal of a post-war pickup with
skilled workmanship, it's pretty much a given that the result is
going to turn heads. This 1950 Ford F-1 Restomod certainly delivers
in the aesthetics department. Its Blue Lagoon paint is showing
nicely, with no noticeable dents or dings, its collection of chrome
and bright work is in fine shape, and it has a well-fitted
appearance that serves notice that substantial time has gone into
bringing it to its current level. But this classic Ford has more
going for it than just its looks. It features a number of
modifications that combine to create a great experience behind the
wheel, including a far more modern and dependable drivetrain than
it started out with, as well as an upgraded suspension that equips
it with a more refined ride.
Glance inside and you'll likely appreciate how the interior
balances an authentically vintage appearance with added
functionality. The color-matched dash area encircles a set of
upgraded Speedhut gauges recessed into a very sharp instrument
cluster, with a pair of vents just below to bring cooled or warmed
air from the aftermarket climate control system into the cabin. The
bench seat blends tan cloth with black accents and is plenty
comfortable enough for even long journeys. And as you look below,
you'll see how the textured steel floor is complemented by black
floor mats that tie in perfectly with the blackened tilt steering
column and its aftermarket wheel.
Beneath the hood, a 5.0-cubic-inch, electronically fuel-injected V8
anchors a drivetrain that's well-suited for frequent driving,
combining with a 4-speed automatic transmission with an overdrive
gear to keep RPMs in check during highway driving. The added
Mustang II front end brings several conveniences that boost the
driving experience, including power rack and pinion steering that
makes navigation a breeze, in addition to front power disc brakes
that combine with the pair also in back to equip this Ford with
fade-resistant stopping ability. That aforementioned Mustang II
front end also includes front coilovers, yielding an improved ride,
adjustability, and better handling than what can be achieved in
stock configuration.
