Before you is a 1969 Ford Thunderbird 2 door Landau. This is a REAL, TRUE and LEGITIMATE and most importantly totally ORIGINAL car with 74,603 actual miles. As a car guy you will understand the importance of original versus restored. The originality of this T-Bird is positively astonishing and breathtaking that leaves those who see it speechless. It is equipped with the venerable, famed 429 Thunderjet engine producing 360 BHP, and 460 foot pounds of torque. The curb weight is over 4500 pounds. It is very quick offering smooth, firm and decisive shifting from the C-6 transmission. Options include obviously Power Steering, Power Brakes, Power Seat, Power Antenna, Selectaire Air Conditioning, Power Vacuum Door Locks, Power Windows and the overhead Optional Indicator Lights convenience check panel, ( Belts, Door, Fuel, Lights.) Aside from the clock EVERY single Option, Accessories, Systems(s), Feature(s) Components and Switches inherent to the proper operation of this vehicle work problem free, worry free, perfectly and flawlessly. Again EVERYONE. I decided to not repair the in dash clock as it is time consuming. Additionally, if I fixed the clock it might keep good time for maybe 8 months, just like when it was brand new they may have given you 1 year of functioning properly. Furthermore, with cell phones ubiquitous, to me, it did not seem like the right move. This car rides akin to a limousine. There isn't a scintilla of a rattle, squeak or any other annoying, mysterious or weird/strange noises. The maxim of, " Built Ford Tough " is ridiculous when comparing a new Ford to this all steel 69 T-Bird. The door hinges are the identical ones used on the 1969 Lincoln Mark III. This chassis/platform is commensurate to the 1969-1971 Mark III. The Silent Flo-thru ventilation system works perfectly. The A/C has been converted to R-134A. It blows icicles and on all speeds. Thankfully this Thunderbird ISN'T equipped with the always troublesome/problematic Automatic Temperature Control.
One could argue that the only substance that has been in the interior of this car in 57 years is AIR. The steering wheel looks as though it just left the mold, as does the dashboard and the fabled Thunderbird " lovers' lane " wrap around backseat. The console area is totally MINT with a perfectly operating center console ashtray cover and lighter. Oftentimes, this cover is usually broken, chipped and rarely slides in the track properly. All the interior courtesy lights have been changed to LED. On a 1969 T-bird the gorgeous stainless door panel trim only came with a reflector at the far end of the door panel. You will note I hand crafted, custom made lights installed in the door panels. They look fabulous. You might ask about the windshield wipers operating correctly: they do and park nicely against the reveal molding. The squirter's also work flawlessly and are aimed directly on the windshield. The vinyl top looks as though it was installed 10 minutes ago, as do the sail panels' huge " S " bar emblems.
The ORIGINAL paint is incredible, stunning and in unimaginable condition. So is the ORIGINAL bumper chrome and grille. The large turquoise emblem on the grille looks like jewelry as well as the small turquoise emblems in the center of the taillights. The trunk compartment is excellent with the factory jack assembly stowage. The engine compartment on this automobile is GENUINE and ORIGINAL. Rarely does someone, " BUY " this statement, however it's highly factual and true. Interestingly enough, Ford never made a passenger door sideview mirror, why I don't know. Moreover, the spare tire never came with a cover. There is not a SPEC of rust on the entire car. The tires have just 800 miles on them. The brakes have been entirely gone through. The interior storage space is remarkable. The original wheel covers are in the trunk. I didn't like the look so I changed them to a genuine, optional mid 70's Thunderbird wire wheel hubcap. The sequential taillights work perfectly. You will note the grille/vent below the rear window is silver. I painted it as I like the look. If you would like it to be body color there is an exact match can of spray paint included. I installed short chrome angle cut dual exhaust tips which exit just below the gravel pan, perfectly straight and even. The only departure from original is the, " out of the factory " awfully problematic vacuum hide-a-way headlight system. They have been converted to ELECTRIC and operate flawlessly, without fail. What a difference it makes. Included with the sale of the car are some coveted, highly important pieces of ORIGINAL documentation such as the owner's manual, temporary owner card, salesmen's personal card, plastic owner warranty I.D. card which validates the car sold new in Albuquerque. You would present this for servicing, a Ford rendition of GM'S Protect-o-plate similar to Chrysler's Certicard, a luxury fabric care and cleaning card, an AM/FM radio booklet, (my car is equipped with only an AM radio),a State Farm I.D. plastic holder pocket showing the vehicle sold at Richardson Ford Sales, Inc. and a large foldable, " SEND HELP, NEED GAS sign. One more topic to note is I installed chrome wheel-well and door edge moldings. I don't know why Ford didn't equip this sport luxury coupe with them as they, " DRESS " the car up. In summation, there are certain to be some who read this and assert, " Man, this guy uses the terms perfect and flawless liberally. If you saw this car you too would agree the words are undeniably apropos.
