We have got here the legendary L-78 high performance Camaro and
this one is indisputably documented by General Motors! It underwent
a complete nut and bolt restoration to factory specs. It's a
no-frills muscle car and oddly enough the original owner ordered it
new with the extremely rare 8-track player!
EXTERIOR: The body is outstanding! It is absolutely straight with
no rust at all, it fits real nicely. It's wearing front and rear
spoilers. Repainted its original color with no vinyl top: code UU
Lemans Blue. The metal flake is laid out evenly and the clear is
polished to a very smooth glossy finish. Correctly painted white
stripe and black tail panel. All the chrome and trim has been
replaced. The glass is all new, weatherstrips were replaced. I love
the painted rims with poverty caps, and they are wrapped in
reproduction redline tires.
INTERIOR: It's a no-frills interior but believe it or not original
owner must have liked his tunes because he ordered it with the
extremely rare 8-track player! The 8-track player was just rebuilt
and a retro stereo system was just added. Otherwise, it's a
standard interior that looks like new from the carpet to the
headliner.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Chevy lied! The L-78 actually made 425
horsepower, that's 50 more than the advertised 375. It also has a
stump pulling 445 lb of torque. They featured a hot solid lifter
cam, 11.5:1 compression, square port heads with upsized valves and
aluminum high rise intake with a 780 Holley feeding it fuel. The
block has correct casting numbers and is dated to this car. All
stock components: correct chrome open element air cleaner and
chrome valve covers. It even has the correct numbered carb and smog
pump assembly. Date coded plug wires, reproduction hoses and
clamps, Delco battery topper and spring clamp battery cables. It is
detailed like it just rolled off the assembly line. Features
include power steering and power brakes.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Impressive! Under the trunk lid and jamb are
painted slick. Inside is pristine metal with a neat spatter finish.
Painted rim with a never used reproduction redline tire and a
restored jack. Latches, wiring, weatherstrip all look new.
UNDERSIDE: This was body off frame restored, all the components
were removed. It has immaculate rust-free floors that have been
painted semi-gloss black. All these suspension and steering was
rebuilt and detailed. The brake system has been completely rebuilt;
it has disc in front. Lines, hoses, e-brake cables were replaced.
Correct dual exhaust with a new transverse muffler. The fuel system
was replaced including the tank. Looking up at the motor it is
spotless Chevy Orange, the starter looks correct and fresh. It has
it's VIN # matching M21 Muncie 4-speed trans, it also looks fresh.
Rebuilt drive shaft leads back to its original 12 bolt posi rear
with 3.55 gears, it is dated to this car.
SERVICE: This went through our shop for inspection and passed with
flying colors.
This is a rare, beautiful Camaro that could be the center piece of
anyone's collection. Being a documented L-78 makes it highly
collectable!
I, Jay Grams, take pride in personally writing the descriptions for
virtually every car for about the last 30 years now. A significant
amount of effort goes into fact checking. What I am offering is my
professional impression of the vehicle. Our salesmen are happy to
assist with descriptions and making sure your questions are
answered. One great suggestion is letting us do a walk around video
that explains the car's condition in detail. **These cars are
displayed in a museum. If interested in a particular car, make an
appointment with a salesman to see that car. Without an appointment
there is an admission fee to enter the showroom. If you buy a car,
your admission will be refunded, and you will be given a 1 year
membership.
