Often considered one of the high points in the muscle car era, and
even more so for Oldsmobile, the 442 stands proudly as a flagship
car for the Golden Age of high-horsepower vehicles. This particular
numbers-matching 1968 Oldsmobile 442 Convertible is fully repainted
in a captivating Light Blue Metallic exterior, complemented by its
white vinyl power top and matching white side stripes. Thanks to
its streamlined and powerful design, this awesome Olds look
aggressive from any angle.
Inside, we find a beautiful and plush Parchment White vinyl
interior. A center console separates twin bucket seats, while a
three-spoke, power-assisted, wood-rimmed wheel sits just ahead of a
trio of gauges measuring speed, fuel, engine temperature, oil
pressure, and of course, time. Sliding HVAC controls include air
conditioning (which needs a recharge), while the factory AM radio
offers soundtrack options, even though you'll probably prefer to
just listen to the rumble emanating from the exhaust while rowing
the floor-mounted Hurst shifter.
Under the hood, we find a numbers-matching L78 400 cubic-inch
overhead valve V-8 engine. Topped with a single four-barrel
carburetor mounted on the stock intake manifold, this big V8 was
rated at 350 horsepower and 440 pound-feet of torque when it rolled
off the assembly line. Stock-style exhaust manifolds give way to a
set of FlowMaster mufflers, giving this old-school muscle car a
growl commensurate with its power. Power is routed through a
numbers-matching Muncie M20 four-speed automatic transmission,
before heading out to the 12-bolt rear, which transfers those
ponies to the pavement via a set of polished 14-inch wheels shod in
trick Firestone redline tires.

engine and transmission intact, this beautiful baby blue boulevard
bruiser has plenty of life left for its new owner to enjoy. But
