"For those who want traditional Cadillac luxury and performance,
plus extra attractive external styling, the Eldorado, Seville, and
Seville Touring Sedan. These beautiful Cadillacs, too, have been
provided with the newly developed 4.9 Liter sequential port fuel
injection V8 engine, and the Computer Command Ride system for extra
smooth running performance and handling. In addition, Eldorado and
both Sevilles now have Bosch II Anti-Lock Brakes, thus adding
exceptional driving safety to their list of superlative features."
From the 1991 sale brochure.
For consignment, a 1991 Cadillac Seville Sedan with a title
verified 51,933 actual miles. This sedan was a single family owned
car until recently andrepresents everything great about the early
90's luxury line and the newly reduced size that was met with some
consternation from Cadillac loyalists at first, then was embraced
for the more efficient size.
Exterior
It may have been downsized, but that didn't stop Cadillac from
including cosmetic luxury styling cues throughout the exterior,
beginning with the mirror finish on the wide trim band that
encircles the car with subtle contrast to the Light Sapphire Blue
Metallic paint. Other luxury touches are found in the Cadillac
script call outs, hood ornament and elongated side marker light
which illuminates turns, a feature reserved for the best of the
best in this era. Our compact Caddy has composite headlights up
front, a stately eggcrate grille, and horizontal tail lights under
a broad decklid that will afford low load height. Unique 15-inch
alloy wheels were standard, here wrapped in white walls and looking
nice. In fact, the entire car is in stupendous condition with some
mild oxidation of the rear window trim noted as the only
imperfection on this coddled Caddy.
Interior
Come with us, back to the early 90's and feast your eyes upon the
blue door panels with integrated controls in a monochrome and tidy
presentation. While the electric switches could have been from GM's
parts bin, in the Caddy, they are framed in piano black faceplates
for a more upscale feel. The blue leather bucket seats are wide and
biscuit tufted, wearing an embroidered Cadillac crest and electric
controls at the side and along with the rear bench, present in
excellent condition. In back, the pattern is shared and includes a
fold away arm rest in the center and a lap belt for a third
passenger. Opera lights ride the C-pillar, a feature reserved for
GM's higher trim levels. Up front, it's groundbreaking digitation,
a black screen surrounded by simulated burlwood that lights up with
segmented green digits and a slew of idiot lights. Black and silver
switchgear occupy the rest of the dash including the Delco
AM/FM/Cassette radio to the right. A/C and a "Driver Information
Center" is in the center stack, allowing owners to scroll through
various status points relayed by the car's computer. In the center
console, a tidy T-handle shifter rises from a woodgrain base ahead
of a robust armrest, all over plush blue carpet that is toes deep
and clean, protected by dealer type plastic liner. The felt lined
foam backed headliner is in nice shape and gray cloth panels fully
finish the trunk which is topped by an additional Cadillac branded
mat. The interior still smells good and is a blue time capsule!
Drivetrain
Sparkling clean under the hood is the 4.9 liter V8, fuel injected
and putting out 200 horsepower. It's mated to a 4T60E 4-speed
automatic transmission that keeps power up front, routing it
through 2.97 gears.
Undercarriage
Unless you count the cobwebs, the underside is super clean with
surface rust reserved for the exhaust only and no errant fluids
anywhere. Much of the bottom is covered by flat belly pans and it's
likely this car never saw rain or snow. Four wheel power disc
brakes are on board and independent suspension is supplied to front
and rear as well, with Macpherson struts in front and a transflex
leaf in back. The single exhaust travels through a stock style
muffler and expels a single wrinkle bent tailpipe.
Drive-Ability
The comfortable interior doesn't disappoint and has plenty of room
while still feeling a bit cozy. The V8 is a quick starter, and we
move the floor mounted shifter to Drive and roll through the test
loop. No complaints here, the car has good power, a square
footprint that tracks straight, and handles well. The driver's
front window does not go all the way up and only halfway to the
sill. Also, the radio turns on but the only sound from the speakers
is a whine. We checked the cassette player for a Yoko Ono tape, but
it is empty. Beyond these things, all functions on this little
luxury cruiser work as they should, including the digital readouts!
While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were
working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these
functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
Despite its sporty size and V8 engine, this is a luxury car,
providing a comfortable ride around town with seats designed for
relaxing, not racing. If you had one in your life, perhaps a parent
or grandparent, you likely have fond memories of the car and here's
a very well preserved example that can bring it all back.
