The 993 Turbo, introduced in mid-1995 as a 1996 model, continued to
hold the torch of the most powerful 911 variant while continuing to
improve the breed as a whole. Among the new features on the 993
Turbo was an electronically controlled viscous coupling all-wheel
drive system-something Porsche had not offered on a turbocharged
model since the 959 and a system that greatly improved the
performance of the Turbo. Under the engine lid-now topped with a
sculpted spoiler tail with downturned edges-resided the 3.6 liter
flat six fed by twin KKK K16 turbos, each featuring integrated
waste gates and two air-to-air intercoolers. Combined with bigger
brakes, fatter tires, a wide body and stance, specially designed
'Technologie-Rad' cast alloy wheels with hollow spokes, the 993
Turbo was one of the fastest cars on the planet. With all four
wheels tearing into the pavement, 0-60mph came in a face melting
3.7 seconds, 100mph ticked by in 5.7 seconds, and the forward
progression continued until the speedometer had crossed 180mph.
Beyond just going fast in a straight line though, the car could
pull up to 1.00g on the skid pad and haul to a stop from 60mph in
just 111 feet. In reviewing the 993 Turbo in June of 1995, Motor
Trend magazine proclaimed, "To beat this Stuttgart screamer into
submission requires a force no less wieldy than the million-dollar
627-horsepower V-12 McLaren F1."
This 1997 Porsche 911 Turbo was produced on January 22nd, 1997 and
was delivered to Walter's Auto Sales & Service in Riverside,
California according to the 911 Turbo's original window sticker.
Spec'd in the optional and stunning Polar Silver Metallic, with a
Boxster Red special leather interior, the Turbo was also optioned
with the Digital Sound package, AM/FM radio with CD player,
stainless steel door sills with insignia, Porsche floor mats, wheel
caps with colored crests, and many standard equipment options
including a leather interior, 18" Technology "Turbo Twist" hollow
spoke wheels, Xenon headlights, power sunroof, auto climate control
with A/C, cruise control, power mirrors, limited slip differential,
and more. Upon delivery, the first owner had Exclusive factory
options from the Special Wishes program installed, with carbon
fiber dashboard trim with "Exclusive" emblazoned on the passenger
side.
Over the course of 28 years, this 993 Turbo has only traveled a
total of 1,026 miles, resulting in a true time-capsule example with
its previous caretakers taking the utmost care of it. The car and
its finishes look as though it just left the factory. The Boxster
Red special leather presents in new condition, as does the Polar
Silver Metallic paint. The Turbo drives equally well, tight and
handling like you'd expect a new car would. Upon arriving at
Canepa, the car was thoroughly looked over and test driven due to
the "Canepa Difference" process, ensuring that all systems and
surfaces are the best they can be. Given a full foam-pad polish to
enhance the original Polar Silver Metallic paint, the car was
carefully detailed to preserve its original finishes. Mechanically
the car was inspected, revealing a healthy and fine example of the
Porsche brand, with a numbers matching engine and transmission
according to the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. Included with
this 993 Turbo are its original sales paperwork, original window
sticker, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, books, tools, jack,
spare wheel/tire, and various promotional items from its original
delivery.
Marking a specific moment in Porsche's history as the last
air-cooled Turbo 911, the 993 Turbo boasts all the refinements that
Porsche learned as a car manufacturer over 50 years. With proper
power, advanced all wheel drive, a fantastic 6-speed manual
transmission, and sports car refinement and comfort that could only
be met by Porsche, the 993 Turbo is one of the all time greats, and
there is no other better to enjoy than this car. Looking like it's
just been rolled off the showroom floor, this 1997 Porsche 911
Turbo is ready for any drive you throw at it, whether it be a 1,000
mile road trip or a drive to a concours lawn.
