With intense national interest in the space race to the moon, Ford introduced the Galaxie nameplate to its full-size line of cars.  In 1962, the Galaxie 500 models offered plusher interiors, more chrome trim outside, and a few additional luxury items over and above what was standard on the plainer Galaxie models.  The  Galaxie 500XL moniker was given to the two-door hardtop and convertible models and was Ford's answer to the SS line from their "cross-town" rival.  The car presented at auction features the following:
