"It was born to win races. And spent half a century capturing
hearts. Developed as a racecar, coveted as a sports car, and
cherished for generations as a dream car, no other automobile can
claim its history of innovation, imagination, and adoration. When
did it first take hold of your heart? Engineered to romance the
road. For 57 years, destined to fuel your love of driving. This is
the 2011 SL-class." From the 2011 sales brochure.
For consignment, a 2011 Mercedes-Benz SL550 convertible with a
title verified 50,414 actual miles. New wheels and tires, new
paint, and S55 exhaust tips highlight this high end sports car with
an attractive white over saddle spec.
Note: This vehicle is sold with a Pennsylvania reconstructed
branding as well as a flood brandingon the title
Exterior
Fans of the SLR will appreciate the side fender gills here which
resemble the supercar's feature in miniature, providing a similar
aggressive feature. While we're at the car's side, we note the
newer wheels which are factory 2019 wheels, here wrapped in
staggered size, low profile ZR rated tires with a late 2024 date
code.Diamond White paint does all it can to accentuate the features
of the car, especially in front where integrated headlights flank a
wide polished grille bar and of course, the three pointed
star.Foglights are housed in contrasting black bezels and a gaping
lower intake with the same mesh design as the grille, presented in
black. Out back, a subtle carbon fiber wing contributes to
sportiness and four chrome tips put an exclamation point on it!
Some orange peel in the paint, scuffs on the chin, and chips on the
wheels are noted as the only glaring imperfections.
Interior
The rich color palette begins on the door panels with beautiful
Saddle materials and a burlwood accent, along with high quality
black plastic housing the switchgear. The leather seats are
perforated and the robust headrest also provides ventilation and
both appear in nice condition, fronting a package area with bins
that is consistent with the Benz quality. A black steering wheel
has some thumb controls and fronts the attractive instrument
cluster that sweeps rearward, covered in leather, and with the main
gauges ringed in white for clarity. The center stack has a screen
to display functions such as the AM/FM/CD player, navigation, and
rear view camera, topping a burlwood faced A/C panel that melts
into the center console where our straight shifter resides, along
with switches and some dead buttons. Medium pile black carpet
covers the floor along with protective rubber mats, and the trunk
is a complex array of shelves and floor, finished in gray carpet,
ready to accept the retractable hardtop.
Drivetrain
A large plastic shroud covers most of the 5.5 liter DOHC V8,
pumping out 382 horsepower and set into motion via a 7-speed
automatic with TouchShift manual shift control for those who need a
bit more engagement. The gearing in back is 2.65 final drive. The
bay presents cleanly with no errant fluids or broken
components.
Undercarriage
Lots of plastic shrouds and splash guards underneath undoubtedly
help with aerodynamics. The dual exhaust travels the center tunnel
through original equipment mufflers, then snaking their way to exit
with two pair of tips split wide at the valance. Power disc brakes
are at all four wheels and suspension is independent front and
rear, consisting of coil springs at both ends with a 5 link in
back.
Drive-Ability
Comfortable, capable, and obviously powerful, this is a 'vert we
could get used to! We find no issues with trackability, handling,
or stopping and the engine idles smoothly, providing a luxury level
exhaust note with just a hint of sportiness. All functions, and
there are quite a few, operate as intended on this luxury sports
car. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were
working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these
functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
