Cruisin Classics is pleased to present to you this 1962 Ford
Galaxie Sunliner convertible. According to the data plate, this
big, beautiful cruiser came from the Louisville plant in '62 with
Corinthian White paint and a Red vinyl interior, but it comes to us
today dressed in slick burnt orange paint with a crisp white
convertible top and two-tone tan interior - a gorgeous color
combination. It appears to us that the car has had a body-off
restoration at some point in its life, but we have no documentation
of it. Up front, you'll find a colorful Ford crest on the lip of
the hood, dual side-by-side headlights flanking a bright horizontal
eggcrate grille with a Galaxie "star" at the center, a gleaming
chrome bumper with integrated turn signals, and chrome ornaments
atop the fenders. Chrome hood lip molding flows around to the sides
of the car and widens to become body-side molding with white insets
that work perfectly with the white top. As you move around to the
side of the car, loads of chrome and brightwork come into view with
bright wiper arms, windshield surround, window trim, dual side
mirrors, door handles, wheel lip molding, "390" fender badging, and
rocker molding. Needless to say, this car shines brilliantly in the
sunlight! The white power-operated convertible top looks brand new
and features a clear plastic rear window. Wheel and tire treatment
is a perfect fit for this Sunliner - steel wheels with factory
hubcaps all wrapped in Uniroyal Tiger Paw white-wall tires. At the
rear of the car are "Sunliner" script badges on the quarters,
"GALAXIE" block lettering on the decklid, large round taillights, a
vertical chrome rear panel, a bumper that's just as nice as the one
up front, and dual chrome exhaust tips.
Lift the hood and find a clean black engine bay with a blue Ford
390ci V-8 at the center. The "X" in the VIN tells us that this car
was originally born with a 352V-8 with a 2-barrel carburetor.
Looking at the engine from under the car, you can see a decal on
the block from Jasper Engines (here in Columbus) with a 6-digit
number. We reached out to Jasper, and they told us that it is
indeed a 390 and it was installed in August of 2016. The block is
topped off with polished aluminum "Powered by Ford" valve covers, a
4-barrel carburetor, and a chrome air cleaner with "390ci High
Performance" decal. Other highlights under the hood include power
steering and a Wilwood master cylinder for the manual 4-wheel disc
brakes with red calipers. The healthy V-8 is mated up to a 3-speed
Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission that shifts smoothly. Exhaust
flows from cast manifolds through glass-pack style mufflers and out
the tailpipes with a nice rumble.
Open the long driver's door to find a very nicely presented
two-tone tan interior illuminated by an under-dash courtesy light.
Though not OEM in style, the design is classy and timeless. The
door panels are a blend of light and darker tan vinyl equipped with
armrests, handles, and window cranks. A bright sill plate leads you
inside for a comfortable seat on the two-tone tan vinyl bench seat
that matches the style of the door cards. Both the front and rear
benches are in excellent condition with no rips, tears, or stains.
Ahead of the driver is a non-original but very cool 3-spoke wood
ringed steering wheel (horn inop.) with a shifter for the automatic
on the column. The dash ahead is tan-painted steel with
machine-turned aluminum bezels for the instrumentation. The upper
section of the driver's dash offers a fuel gauge, a 120mph
speedometer, a temp gauge (inop.), and a clock (inop.). The
odometer reads 66,844 miles, which the title confirms to be actual.
In fact, the car has been driven less than 3K miles since 2013!
Below on the dash are controls for the lights, working power top,
wipers (inop.), and working fan and heat. At the center of the dash
is the original AM pushbutton radio that plays through a dash
speaker. Being the original radio, it is a tube-style unit, and it
takes a minute to warm up before working. Ahead of the passenger is
a glovebox door with bright "Sunliner" script, and inside is a
reproduction owner's manual. Underfoot is nice quality dark tan
hook & loop carpet with rubber floormats. Back in the trunk, you'll
find a vinyl mat, a full spare with a factory-style jack, a shop
manual, and a new tan vinyl boot cover that matches the interior
perfectly.
Whether you're looking specifically for a Galaxie or just a cool
full-size drop-top cruiser, you are sure to be impressed by this
'62 Sunliner! You couldn't even come close to restoring a car to
this level of condition for the price we're asking! Give our
friendly staff a call today before someone else snatches this
beauty up!
