"The '11 Shelby GT500 Super Snake is a hot rodded GT500 Mustang.
The base GT500 already has Shelby insignias all over it, and a
540hp, blown, 5.4L, DOHC motor under the hood makes it plenty fast.
But if it's still not fast enough, for another $34,245 the Shelby
American facility in Las Vegas will turn it into a true fire
breather that makes 750 hp at the crank and looks tough and it
comes with a factory warranty." Hot Rod, May 2011
For consignment, a 2011 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Super Snake with
a title verified, 6,683 actual miles. Shelby American in Las Vegas
worked their magic on the GT500 with nearly 40 modifications
affecting exterior, interior, engine, brakes, suspension, and
wheels and tires!
Exterior
The snake's wide functional hood scoop is a dead giveaway that this
is not your average Mustang and when it blows by you, that's when
you notice the quarter window scoops and if you're quick, the Super
Snake emblem on the side. For sure you can't miss the black
stripes, here adorning Ingot Silver Metallic paint, all bolstered
visually by the 20-inch black Shelby Super Snake wheels with
staggered width 35 series ZR rated meats. Out back, an upturned
wing keeps the tail on the ground while dual exhaust fits the
blackened rear splitter. Up front, it's a carbon fiber unit that
greets the wind, matching the rocker panels, while hood pins keep
the hood from heading to space. Externally we could find no faults,
she's in flawless condition!
Interior
The door panels nearly lull us to sleep with their basic
configuration borrowed from the GT, but we are rattled awake by the
custom seats we see before us, black and silver buckets with silver
stitching and the Super Snake logo embroidered on the seat back and
Carroll Shelby's autograph stitched into all four headrests! Up
front, the steering wheel and instrument cluster carry over from
the GT500 but extra gauges are included on the A-pillar to monitor
boost, fuel, and oil pressures. A Shaker entertainment system
includes an AM/FM/CD unit and the air conditioning is a series of
buttons below it. A few notable signatures are on the airbag cover,
and Carrolls is engraved in the center console plate that
designates the car as #29. The billet white ball short throw
shifter resides nearby while charcoal low pile carpet that can be
protected by Super Snake branded mats, currently in trunk. Also in
the truck is a special floor mat with Carroll's handywork and
another expression of Super Snake. Everything described above is in
excellent condition with hardly any signs of usage.
Drivetrain
If you look at a cobra or rattlesnake, it's not their pretty
external scales that makes them dangerous, it's the venom glands
tucked into their front parts that you can't see. Open the hood of
this snake and what you see is the venomous and attractive 5.4
liter DOHC V8 wearing a Whipple 2.3 supercharger, together putting
out 750 horsepower. The SS is moved into motion thanks to the
Tremec TR6060 6-speed manual, sending power to the Ford 8.8"
differential in back with 3.73 gears and TracLoc.
Undercarriage
The underside looks barely used with even the grease pencil marks
and labels still in place and the shocks and brake calipers pop
with bright colors amongst the black and metallic surroundings. Big
exhaust pipes find their way to Borla stainless mufflers where they
fan out to the polished oval tips. Ford Racing suspension
components include Macpherson struts up front with a 3 link, coil
springs, and a panhard bar in the rear. Air ducts go from the front
of the car to the brake plates for direct cooling, something you
rarely see outside of cars born to race.As we can see through the
wheels, power disc brakes occupy front and back and these are
Shelby/Baer Extreme six piston calipers with drilled and slotted
rotors.
Drive-Ability
No complaints here as this supercar for the streets retains much of
the user friendliness of your average GT, and thus the interior is
not an intimidating space. Turn the key however, and the puckering
begins because this car makes no secret of its venomous power. On
the test loop, we mostly stayed out of boost and the car remained
streetable with the anticipation of a thoroughbred in the gate. All
functions on this low mileage beauty operate as they should and we
snake our way back to the mall. While Classic Auto Mall represents
that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we
cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of
your purchase.
There's no doubt that Shelby is proud of this endeavor, as they
should be. Including the wheel center caps, Super Snake is
expressed 10 times on the exterior and including the engine bay,
expressed 14 times on the interior. If that's not enough credit for
you, John Clor of Ford Performance and Gale Haldeman, Mustang
designer, both signed the glove box. This is a serious machine for
the serious collector and enthusiast. If all you do is put another
6,000 miles on it, you will have lived a full life!
