"One of the most glaring aspects of the classic pickup's longevity
is its simplicity. Until about 20 years ago, pickup trucks were
still seen as work vehicles first, and the thought of something
like a new F-150 Platinum Plus with ventilated, massage seats and a
giant touchscreen infotainment system didn't even cross anyone's
mind yet. Because pickups were still embroiled in work, they needed
to be simple and easy to repair for the owner. This simplicity
translated into longevity, as an easy to maintain vehicle offers
more incentive for the owner to actually take care of it."

For consignment, a 1992 Chevrolet C1500 long bed pickup showing
188,595 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This truck has some
tasteful light mods and relatively new paint, presenting cleanly
inside and out.
Exterior
Two stage Bahama Blue Metallic, no doubt named for the color of the
ocean, coats this truck with a splendid shine that now accentuates
the smooth panels and subtle body lines, but contrasts perfectly
with the chrome grille, black side mirrors, door handles, and
smooth, red tail lights where a roll pan replaces a rear bumper.
The 15-inch wheels were sandblasted and powder coated when the
truck was painted and the black, slotted wheels carry 255/70R15
tires with an early 2024 date code, so you're going to be good for
a while. A solid rear window overlooks a smooth soft tonneau that
covers the bed protected by a Bodygard plastic liner. Overall, the
paint and trim are nice with some imperfections noted as some
uneven filler near a door bottom corner, rocker panel, and other
spots.
Interior
Blue velour and carpet covers the door panels which include window
cranks and a storage bin. The same material cleanly covers the
bench seat, with built in armrest and adjustable head restraints.
Chevy's standard truck steering wheel presents to the driver and
shares the column with the shifter, while leading to a simple gauge
cluster behind plexiglass while additional gauges have been added
under the dash along with an updated Kenwood AM/FM/CD player
replacing the Delco unit. An electric fuel pump shut off switch has
also been included in the cab. Blue carpet covers the floor and
presents in nice condition, and the headliner and visors also
remain in good shape.
Drivetrain
Powering this blue beauty is a 5.7 liter V8 with throttle body
injection mated to a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission. This
power is routed through a new TrueTrac 3.73 gear posi unit inside
the 10 bolt axle. Long tube headers are on board to start the
exhaust process, and a K&N intake tube and filter are in place
as well.
Undercarriage
Patina and surface rust abound on this otherwise clean and dry
underside. The 2.5" dual exhaust system enters a Cherrybomb
muffler, then splits wide to exit through two chrome tips behind
each rear wheel. Power brakes are standard configuration here,
front disc and rear drum and suspension is as the factory built
with coil springs up front and leaf springs in the back.
Drive-Ability
Amazing how a freer breathing exhaust system can make an auditory
difference that turns this rather pedestrian trimmed long bed into
a fire breathing muscle truck. It probably adds a few horsepower
too on top of the adrenaline rush the sound elicits. The truck runs
and drives without surprises, tracking straight, absorbing road
imperfections, and stopping on demand. We note the speedometer,
odometer, trip odometer and A/C are not working. All other
functions operate as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents
that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we
cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of
your purchase.
Time marches on and what once was a common work truck in the early
90's, is now a highly sought after analog classic that more often
appears at car shows rather than county fairs. This is a nice,
clean, straight, and well sorted truck with lots of eye appeal and
plenty of ear appeal too!
