For Sale: 1986 Mercedes-Benz 560SL in Tucson, Arizona

Vehicle Description

In 1986, Mercedes-Benz shipped its most powerful SL of the decade to the U.S. in the 560SL. The car was also the heaviest of the 1971-89 R107 SLs that Mercedes produced, but the new 5.6-liter V-8 engine’s 227hp did a fine job of mitigating that fact. Top speed was much improved and the car was quicker from a standstill to 60 mph by about 4 full seconds.

The engine was much torquier, too, which greatly improved the cars’ dynamics. Likewise, the car received a new more responsive front suspension and a limited-slip differential to better handle the added torque and power. Mercedes-Benz also added anti-lock brakes, leather upholstery, an alarm system, and an air bag, all of which better suited the car’s $48,000 price tag.

The 560SL sold well with average annual sales exceeding 12,000 units, which outpaced the 450SL and 380SL. Nonetheless, Mercedes retired the R107 chassis in 1990, introducing the first all-new SL in 18 years. Today, many enthusiasts gravitate towards the 560SL as it retains some of the original lines of the pagoda SLs while carrying with it all of the R107’s advances. It remains a popular choice for those enthusiasts who value verve and build quality for a low price of entry.

This example was purchased new at Murray Motors Imports in Denver Colorado on February 27th 1986.  The car remained with its original owner until it was sold in 2020 with only 54,100 miles on the odometer. The 2nd owner barely drove the car accumulating only 100 miles over the next five years.

All original Car that was maintained by Stuttgart Autohaus here in Tucson AZ for most of its life. Finished in the rare and striking color combo of Black over grey leather interior. The original Black paint shines like new with only minor imperfections from use over the years. The chrome and brightwork are still in excellent condition showing only minimal aging. The Leather interior is still very soft and the carpets are in amazing condition for their age. Accessory floor mats have helped preserve he original flooring over the years. Under the custom fitted dash mat you will find a few cracks in the dash top from the AZ heat, but otherwise the interior still shows excellent. The woodgrain panels on console and dash is still in very good shape with only a few very minor cracks showing. Has the original black sof top in good shape as well as the factory Black Hardtop. This car is rock solid underneath and has never had any rust.

Just serviced and ready to enjoy. Very rare to find a 560sl  with such low miles, good service records, and a striking rare color combination.
