Introduced midway through 1996, the GTS trim offered a new strain
of venom to
the Dodge Viper's already potent bite. On the surface, the GTS was
the
fixed-roof version of the Viper RT/10 Roadster, sporting a distinct
"double
bubble" roof to accommodate racing helmets-but its fangs sank much
deeper than
that. The 8.0-liter V10 was massaged to 450 horsepower and 490
lb-ft of torque
that coursed through its six-speed manual transmission, but a
stiffer chassis,
upgraded suspension, and improved aerodynamics made it much easier
to charm the
snake. It was the first Viper equipped with airbags, and further
quality-of-life
upgrades included air conditioning, power door locks, and power
windows as
standard.
This impeccably preserved 1997 Dodge Viper GTS is finished in Viper
Blue with
white stripes and sports a black leather-trimmed interior. The car
is
well-optioned with a limited slip differential, 17-inch polished
five-spoke
alloy wheels, and an Alpine radio. The clean CARFAX Vehicle History
Report,
along with historical records on file document that the car was
retained by the
first and original owner for 28 years and registered in Connecticut
during this
time. The exquisite Viper was purchased by the consignor in
December 2023 and
has since resided in Nevada.
Well-preserved since new and in immaculate condition, this Viper
GTS has
accumulated just 953 miles at the time of cataloging. It is
furnished with its
original window sticker, original owner's manuals, and warranty
cards.
With a single ownership since new and offered with under 1,000
miles, this 1997
Dodge Viper GTS is a true time capsule example. Typically destined
to be driven
hard, rarely do such untouched Vipers surface-giving this highly
collectible
example's next caretaker the opportunity to choose exactly how best
they want to
enjoy a near-new version of one of America's most daring sports
cars.
