The original Alfa Romeo Giulia, produced from 1962 to 1978, was
among the world's first sports sedans; proof that a practical
four-door could be every bit as engaging as a purpose-built sports
car. The Giulia TI set the tone, borrowing its name from the
Italian touring saloon racing class of the 1950s. Lightweight and
aerodynamically efficient, the Type 105 series Giulia was powered
by Alfa's lively twin-cam four-cylinder with a single carburetor,
available in 1.3- or 1.6-liter form. Early cars were equipped with
drum brakes, but by 1963 four-wheel Dunlop discs further sharpened
the Giulia's performance credentials.
This 1965 Alfa Romeo 1600 TI was originally delivered to
Northridge, California and finished in Acqua di Fonte (Springwater
Blue) over a tan Skai leatherette interior, according to its
production certificate from Centro Documentazione Alfa Romeo. In
2011, the Alfa underwent a full restoration through Santo's Italian
Car Service in Los Angeles, which totaled over $50,000. Its body
and wheels were restored, while it was refinished in white with a
new red interior fitted. Most notably, the Alfa was fitted with a
2.0-liter twin-cam with dual Weber carburetors out of a 2000 GT
Veloce. Its mechanicals were refreshed as well, including a rebuild
of the five-speed manual transmission and suspension, and was
equipped with a fresh set of Vredestein Sprint Classic tires as
well as a limited-slip differential.
The Alfa's most recent owner, based in Texas, acquired the car in
March 2015 on a bill of sale from Prominent Northern
California-based classic car dealer Fantasy Junction. The car
received additional maintenance in July 2020 through Italian
specialists Vick Autosports in Cleburne, Texas, and brake updates
the following month to replace the brake master cylinder and lines.
It is now offered with 8,697 miles at cataloging, having been
enjoyed thoroughly by its current owner and undergone regular
safety inspections in Texas.
Benefiting from a comprehensive restoration and thoughtful
mechanical and aesthetic upgrades, this 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia 1600
TI sporting a heartier 2.0-liter powerplant offers the undeniable
charm of a classic Alfa with the usability to enjoy on today's
greatest driving roads.
