Jaguar's iconic E-Type needs nary an introduction. Long included on
lists of the greatest and most beautiful cars ever produced, it is
a cornerstone of the car collecting hobby-with great examples found
in the world's finest collections and the garages of everyday
enthusiasts. While opinions differ on which of the many variants is
best to drive, most agree that the Series 1 cars, with their
covered headlamps and clean, pure lines are the most attractive of
the lot.
Jaguar continually refined the E-Type throughout production, with
myriad variations among the series. This lovely 1963 "OTS" Roadster
(Open Two Seat, in Jaguar parlance), resplendent in bright Carmine
Red over a red leather interior, represents the earlier end of the
spectrum, renowned for their purity of design truly representing
the "best of British". Powered by its original, sweet-revving
3.8-liter twin-cam XK engine, it features the tactile Moss
four-speed transmission, correct fixed-back bucket seats, and
tasteful alloy dash and console decor. The accompanying Jaguar
Heritage Trust Certificate shows a build date of October 1963,
therefore benefiting from running production refinements, notably
the lowered floor pans affording significantly more comfort over
the early flat-floor models. Production records also reveal this
car was originally delivered to the United States, finished in
Opalescent Silver Grey with Red upholstery.
This E-Type Roadster was reportedly cherished by the second owner
for over 40 years who had it cosmetically restored during their
tenure and is said to have used it sparingly. The third owner
acquired it from his widow in 2021, subsequently servicing it with
a new clutch, bottom-end re-seal, CoolCat fan, and engine
detailing. Joining the vendor's collection in 2022, additional
service work was performed to prepare the car for touring,
including detailing, an alloy radiator, and a fresh set of redline
tires mounted on the gleaming chrome wire wheels. Renowned for
their performance and versatility, early E-Types are wildly popular
with classic touring and rally enthusiasts. This beautiful example
with its matching-numbers engine, select upgrades such as luggage
rack with fitted suitcase, and cherished history, is a prime
candidate for continued motoring adventures.
