After more than two years absent from production, Dodge's American
supercar
returned in 2013 under Chrysler's newly formed Street and Racing
Technology
(SRT) brand, marking the fifth and final generation of the iconic
Viper. Offered
strictly as a coupe, this iteration of the Viper used an
all-aluminum 8.4-liter
V10 engine producing 640 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque, mated
to a 6-speed
manual transmission and backed by a revised chassis delivering
50-percent
improved torsional stiffness and the best power-to-weight ratio in
Viper
history.
The revival was celebrated with the limited-edition SRT Viper GTS
Launch
Edition, unveiled at Monterey Car Week in August 2012. This special
model paid
homage to the past Viper launches of 1996 and 2006 through its
recognizable GTS
Blue paint complemented by dual Bright White racing stripes-a color
combination
exclusive to Launch Edition examples. The exterior was further
distinguished by
blue "Stryker" badges on the hood and steering wheel, paired with
five-spoke
polished forged-aluminum wheels in a modern deep-section design.
The interior
featured a serialized dash plaque that aligned with the car's
sequence number in
the 150-car production run, while black Laguna leather with
contrast stitching
trimmed the seats, doors, instrument panel, and steering wheel.
This particular SRT Viper GTS is identified by its dashboard plaque
as the 150th
and final example of 150 Launch Edition models built. Purchased new
by the
founder and former president of the New Jersey Viper Club, this
example was
delivered through Woodhouse Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM of Sioux City,
Iowa, with
the Launch Edition package documented on the original window
sticker at an
additional $15,500. The Viper received a full-body paint protection
film (PPF)
which was then ceramic coated. The accompanying clean CARFAX Report
indicates
single ownership in New Jersey until August 2021, when the car
transferred to
its second owner in Texas with just over 3,600 miles recorded.
Showing approximately 4,236 original miles at the time of
cataloging, this well
preserved final SRT Launch Edition is complete with its original
window sticker,
owner's manuals, dossier of maintenance records, both sets of keys,
as well as
various factory accessories including its air pump and serial
number matched car
cover. Combining limited production with low mileage, as well as
having the
distinction of being the last one produced, this SRT Viper GTS is a
particularly
significant example that heralds the Viper's celebrated return to
the American
supercar landscape.
