Designed by Henrik Fisker and unveiled at the 1999 Frankfurt Motor
Show, the BMW Z8 blends modernity with subtle nods to the 1950s,
quietly echoing the spirit of the classic BMW 507 without slipping
into nostalgia. Fittingly, the "Z" stands for Zukunft, the German
word for "future," reflecting the forward-looking approach firmly
rooted in this project.
This two-seat roadster, with its long hood hinting at raw power,
houses a 4.9-liter M-Power V8 engine producing 400 horsepower
that's delivered to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual
transmission, while its aluminum space frame chassis, clad in
bolted-on aluminum body panels, weighs just 230 kg, a technical
achievement that underscores its lightweight performance. The BMW
Z8 gained instant fame not only for its design and performance but
also as the car driven by secret agent 007, played by Pierce
Brosnan, in The World Is Not Enough, appearing slightly upgraded by
Q.
Fitted in a far more civilized yet equally luxurious manner, this
superbly preserved example-finished in Titanium Silver with Sport
Red over black Nappa leather, accompanied by its matching hardtop
and beige soft top, complemented by 18-inch split-spoke wheels, and
equipped with a six-disc CD changer, navigation system, Harman
Kardon sound system, leather-wrapped roll hoops, air conditioning,
and cruise control-was originally delivered new in Massachusetts in
the spring of 2002.
Its first owner, a BMW enthusiast and regular customer of the
brand, ensured the car underwent regular inspections and had a
major service performed by Bavarian Performance Group just before
reaching 5,000 miles. He kept it until 2014, by which time it had
already accumulated 6,000 miles-most of its current mileage. The
second owner kept it for one year before passing it on to the
third, who had the car serviced at 7,154 miles by a BMW Service
Center. Together, they added only 1,600 miles.
Showing just 7,604 miles on the odometer at the time of cataloging,
the Z8 is presented today in superbly well-preserved condition,
accompanied by a clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report, service
invoices, its original books in pouch, various factory
paraphernalia and the BMW Experience CD, as well as the factory
supplied mobile phone.
From day one, BMW guaranteed a 50-year supply of parts to preserve
and maintain the Z8, underscoring its enduring value as a true
collector's car. This exceptionally low-mileage, superbly original
example offers a rare opportunity to own a piece of automotive
history built to stand the test of time.
