Chassis No. J58S102827 Melding the iconic looks of the 1958
Corvette with
21st-century performance, this outstanding restomod is the result
of one
collector's lifelong passion for Corvettes. Having grown up around
1950s
Corvettes through his father's Brooklyn-based Chevy dealership, the
consignor
wanted the panache of a 1958 'Vette but also wanted to blow the
doors off of
modern traffic. Upon finding a derelict donor in 2007, he turned it
over to
Advanced Automotive Technologies of Rochester Hills, Michigan, run
by former GM
designer Steve Pasteiner. AAT is renowned in the industry for
building
prototypes and concept cars for nearly every major manufacturer.
The results
speak quite well for themselves. The beautifully restored body, in
Signet Red
with white side coves, retains the original character with subtle
tweaks.
Hinting at what lurks beneath, the car sits low on fabulous
period-style "kidney
bean" 16-inch wheels wrapped in chunky Goodyear radials. Hiding
behind the
wheels are disc brakes all around, and four-wheel independent
suspension
supporting a bespoke chassis. Power comes from a Chevrolet LS1 V8
rated at 350
horsepower and backed by a six-speed manual transmission, providing
ample
giddy-up. The cockpit seamlessly blends new and old with custom red
leather
seats, a bespoke console, retro-modern stereo, and modern
instruments set in the
original dash. Two tops further enhance the three-season usability.
AAT's vast
expertise is evident in the car's impressive engineering,
packaging, and finish
quality. Guided by a passionate Corvette enthusiast's dream, it
captures the
greatness of the original in a "turnkey" package ready to devour
the miles with
ease.
