"Corvette Coupe, the grand touring edition of America's exotic car,
offers a stunning combination of advanced design, luxurious comfort
and outstanding performance. To those who have driven a Corvette,
it should come as no surprise that Car and Driver has named this
car one of the world's "Ten Best" for three years running. Exterior
Design: The sensuous shape of the Corvette Coupe is unmistakable,
from the sweeping hood line to the tradition inspired circular tail
lamps." Corvettemuseum.org on the 1988 Corvette.
For consignment, a 1988 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe showing 12,535
miles, but the true miles are unknown. This is a one owner Vette
with unique side pipes that render it a standout from your typical
C4. Of course, the bright yellow paint makes it fairly obvious as
well!
Exterior
The revolutionary C4 started with recessed marker lights in front
and a square tail, eventually leading in coming years to a rounded
tail and flush marker lights. This one is still true to the
earliest C4's and is bathed in a retina searing shade of Yellow you
can see from the same distance as the sun. In profile, the nicely
integrated yellow housing for the side pipes adds some rounded
edges to this angular car and the large rear wing rolls over the
back edge and casts a shadow on the epic round taillights that are
unmistakably Corvette. C6 style chrome wheels in 17-inches carry 40
series ZR rated tires and the removable targa top offers some
contrasting smoke colored glass above. The exterior is in excellent
condition with a single scratch in the paint being the only
imperfection.
Interior
Door panels are constructed of a variety of black materials
including textured plastic, vinyl, and carpet panels, with speakers
embedded in the inner portion. Black leather bucket seats have
plenty of side supports to hold you in while you're pulling some
G's in a curve and switchgear caps each hip supporting side
bolsters. The seats are perforated and in nice shape, divided by a
large black console housing the leather wrapped shifter. A clean
black instrument cluster is backlit in a colorful array of digital
characters, the best we had in the late 80's and early 90's, and a
Corvette branded radar detector fits just above the gauges. Toggle
switches in the center allow you to monitor functions and liquids
on board displayed on the adjacent screen while an aftermarket
AM/FM/CD player is situated above the push button A/C panel. Black
carpet covers the floors, footwells, sidewalls, and cargo area and
is in very good condition.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a cleanly presented 350ci V8 rated at 240
horsepower, fuel injected, and mated to a 700R4 4-speed automatic
transmission that routes power to the rear axle with 2.59 gears in
a limited slip differential.
Undercarriage
The underside is impeccably clean with minimal surface rust and dry
conditions throughout. Four wheel power disc brakes are on board
along with dual exhaust which enter a single catalytic converter
then meet a splitter which sends them east and west toward the Side
Effects side pipes. Fiberglass transverse leaf springs and aluminum
control arms save weight in the suspension construction and keep
the front and rear independent.
Drive-Ability
No surprises here as this bright car delivers all the grunt,
handling prowess, and stopping ability you'd expect in a well
maintained, low mileage C4 Corvette. We're impressed with the
cleanliness and the fact that all functions, including the digital
dash which are known to be finicky, operate as new. While Classic
Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time
of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be
working at the time of your purchase
We're seeing more and more young people embracing C4's as both a
vintage car and one that's suddenly cool to be seen in! That
doesn't mean you have to be young to buy this one. There's a chance
that no matter how old you are, a C4 Corvette turned your head at
some point, especially when they were new on the streets, garnering
more gaping jaws than UFO's. This is a nicely preserved example
with some custom features and with a spotless bottom side and
topside.
