In the history of the autoverse, few cars inspire equal amounts of
fear and respect quite like this 1969 Plymouth Road Runner. Fully
repainted in a brilliant white with dual full-length black racing
stripes, this throwback powerhouse looks clean and straight from
any angle, while its aftermarket hood, complete with a scooped hood
and old-school locking pins, not-so-subtly reminds anyone driving
ahead of this beast to get out of the way.
Inside, we find a well-done black vinyl interior which has been
restored with a few tasteful upgrades. A roomy split-bench front
seat sits in front of a white-faced aftermarket gauge setup
featuring an analog 160 mph speedometer and 8,000 rpm tachometer,
separated by a large digital readout. An upgraded
AM/FM/AUX/Satellite radio offers Bluetooth connectivity, while air
conditioning keeps the cabin cool even with that big motor up
front.
Under that aggressively styled hood, we find a massive 440 cubic
inch V-8 engine. Equipped with a FiTech EFI system on an Edelbrock
intake manifold, spent gases are expelled via a set of long tube
headers and FlowMaster dual exhaust. That power is routed through a
tried-and-true four-speed manual transmission before reaching its
recently rebuilt 3.42-geared, 8.75-inch TruTrac positraction rear
end.
