This 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Tribute is a member of an automotive
class that has been immortalized in movies and songs alike, so its
builder could have easily rested on this Chevy's visual laurels and
left it at that. Thankfully, for its next lucky owner, that wasn't
to be. This rolling icon was instead treated to a thorough
restoration that included the addition of a selection of
outstanding mechanical upgrades, enabling it to provide a driving
experience on a par with its crowd-drawing curb appeal. Dressed in
a very appealing shade of red, it features uniformly precise body
panel gaps and doors that open and shut smoothly. Up front, a pair
of upgraded tri-bar headlights illuminate the road ahead, while in
back, the added blue bow-tie badged taillights are a great
finishing touch.
Climb inside and you'll be surrounded by an interior that shows
plenty of skilled workmanship and is in fine condition. The two
rows of plush bench seating combine red vinyl with sharp gray cloth
accents and sit over an expanse of clean red carpeting. A
floor-mounted shifter makes this Chevy easier to command than most
of its counterparts, and an accompanying SunPro tachometer is
positioned just in front of it to monitor RPMs. A retro-looking
AM/FM stereo with an auxiliary port is now positioned at the center
of the dash, surrounded by that broad chrome accent that became a
defining feature of this model. Below, added vents combine with an
aftermarket climate control system to keep this classic comfortable
to drive, year-round.
Beneath the hood, a 350 cubic-inch V8 lurks at the center of a
well-maintained compartment, outfitted with a Holley 4-barrel
carburetor and Edelbrock Performer intake manifold to increase its
output. The engine fires up easily and idles smoothly, pairing with
a 4-speed automatic 700R4 transmission with an overdrive gear to
keep revs down at highway speeds. Ride Tech front coilovers and
tubular control arms pair with a rear sway bar to empower this
Chevy with handling abilities far beyond what it started life with,
while 4-wheel power disc brakes bring prompt, low-effort stops. A
complete Painless wiring system has also been added for increased
everyday reliability.
