What an ultra-sharp pre-War cruiser! This 1940 Ford Deluxe Business
Coupe is an outstanding example of its genre-defining model. Clad
in gray paint that already looks sharp in its present form and can
easily be taken to the next level with a little detailing work,
it's chock full of vintage style. Its prominent, sculpted hood and
fenders, plentiful window glass, and generous proportions combine
to give this vintage Ford an identity all its own, and it has come
through the decades in impressive fashion, featuring a collection
of shiny brightwork, consistent body panel alignment, and expansive
doors that open and close solidly. But what's equally impressive
about this stylish ride is its unusually strong running condition.
Yep, after 80 years of service, it's ready to hit the asphalt as
soon as you bring it home.
Climb in and you'll notice just how roomy the interior is, a nice
byproduct of this Ford's revolutionary single row of bench seating
upon rolling off the assembly line. As it happens, that
aforementioned bench seat is in fine shape, showing only the
slightest of wear on its plush tan surface while looming over
period-correct carpeting that still retains a nice, tight fit. The
dash area, like most everything else inside the doors, still
features its factory look, except for a single gauge mounted below
the instrument cluster, and its overall functionality is impressive
for a car from this era.
This vintage Ford offers a running condition that you don't often
find in cars from this era, and, likely through careful planning
and meticulous sourcing, it has been achieved while keeping an
impressively authentic appearance beneath the hood, where you'll
find a 239 cubic-inch flathead V8 standing by in an orderly engine
compartment. This period-correct powerplant fires up eagerly and
pulls with surprising power, especially given its era, combining
with a 3-speed manual transmission that shifts very solidly. The
steering system is another big plus, as it's unburdened by
excessive slack and tracks nice and straight. And when it comes
time to bring this classic to a halt, its 4-wheel drum brakes do so
with no issues at all. The electrical system has been upgraded in
the interest of dependability, now running on 12 volts and
featuring an alternator in place of the factory-issued
generator.
