Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1976 Volkswagen Rabbit
(the Rabbit was the US-market designation for the first-generation
Golf, the successor to the Type 1 Beetle). Finished in the terrific
original color of Acapulco Blue, this Rabbit has been upgraded with
many GTI components by its present enthusiast owner (but is offered
without the GTI price premium). Paint quality is excellent over a
straight and rust-free body. Windshield and all seals are new.
13-inch "Tarantula" wheels are wearing correct Pirelli CN36
Cinturato tires. Upgrades include GTI flares and front spoiler,
plus a Euro grille with Carello headlights (and supplemental
driving lights wired to the high beam switch via relay).
Interior is believed to be all original, aside from a set of new
floor mats and an upgraded GTI steering wheel and shift knob. No
sunroof, no radio, no frills - just a hot hatch that's fun to drive
(and looks great doing it). A bolt of new plaid upholstery is
included (see photo of trunk) should the next owner wish to
re-cover the seats.
Under the hood is a 1.6 liter four-cylinder engine mated to a
four-speed manual transmission. Within the last year and 1,000
miles this Rabbit saw extensive service including a new Weber 32/36
carburetor with electric choke, new belts, complete tune-up with
new cap, rotor, plugs, wires, oil service and more. Mileage, at
just over 70k, is believed original. Runs and drives great. A Mk1
Golf (or Rabbit) is becoming increasingly difficult to find,
especially in this color and condition.
