This 2001 Ford Mustang Bullitt GT might just represent the best
classic car value out there for those who like to drive something
distinctive and speedy. After all, this is a single-year package
coupe. And this is even a two-owner car that has the right mix of
care and investment to be the V8 five-speed collectible that you'll
also love to drive.
The Bullitt edition Mustangs were all about attitude. We all know
the movie car was green, but Ford also offered it in black, because
it's the color the bad guys had (and that's really the attitude we
wanted to see from McQueen anyway, right?) It also made it rarer
with only 1,819 examples of the 5,582 Bullitt Mustangs painted this
deep and dark hue. It's this level of uniqueness that has helped
get it plenty of respect. This is an actual mileage car that shows
all the right signs of the factory finish. Still, it retains an
impressive gloss that makes this black look particularly striking.
Good care is part of what happens when you have a garage-kept
long-term first owner, and the only other owner continues the
tradition of care with solid maintenance investments. So you can
really see the details that make this a spiritual link to Steve
McQueen's 1968 coupe. There was a special hood scoop, rear wing
delete, a custom gas filler door, special badging, bright rolled
exhaust tips, and torque thrust style wheels. It makes for a meaner
Mustang with an irresistible appeal.
The interior has a cool look with some special Bullitt upgrades.
This includes cool gauges with a vintage font, aluminum pedals, and
retro-looking leather buckets with narrow pleats, just like the
1968 fastback. This is a driver's car, and so there is a little
wear to the driver's seat, but overall there is an impressive
style. The dash, door panels, center console, carpeting, and
headliner all have the right care of a well-respected car. It's
also loaded with the best features like power windows, power locks,
keyless entry/alarm, cruise control, power steering, a tilt wheel,
cup holders, and cold-blowing air conditioning. And you just know
your right hand is going to love resting on the billet shifter.
Under the hood is the Ford famous 4.6-liter V8. These are hardy and
powerful, especially when looking this well-maintained. This was
even treated to new filters and fluids recently. It fires up
eagerly, and the upgraded Bullitt exhaust really delivers a nice V8
tune. Best of all, you are in complete control of this enhanced
fuel-injected power and its rumbling soundtrack thanks to the
five-speed manual transmission. Power steering, subframe connectors
(another nice Bullitt addition,) four-wheel disc brakes with new
calipers, and new sport tires are all about making sure you enjoy
driving this limited-edition coupe.
The sale comes complete with maintenance records and service
manuals. This is a rare pony car with a terrific pedigree. We all
know McQueen was a driver, and this would be the one he'd drive.
